yarow12: Was a ton missing from the movie? Yes. Does it matter to people who haven't read the comic? No.
In closing, the Watchmen, like Dredd, was a huge success to me.

JDelekto: OK, to which Dredd do you refer, the one with Stallone which was more comical than comic or the re-make?
The former is Judge Dredd. The latter is Dredd. I am referring the the 're-make', but I enjoyed the original aswell.
TIL people think Judge Dredd is comical. Huh, guess I never noticed... or I just don't remember.

The new one was not a remake, just another Dredd film with nothing to do with the first in the slightest.

If you were cynical you could call it a "reboot", but given it was someone elses attempt this seems a disingenuous - what were they going to do make a sequal with Stallone. They were making a decent attempt at an actual Dredd movie not a popcorn hollywood cash generator.

Edit: I always liked the Tick, and inderrated cartoon and even an amusing live action show at one point. Wouldnt mind seeing more in some form.

And here I am, the only guy who actually liked the Stallone movie more. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of the comic book Dredd, and don't really know those comics well. The Stallone movie was a stupid hollywood action flick, but it was a fun stupid hollywood action flick. The new movie was very boring to me- floor by floor of shooting, repetative and uncreative action, poor production values, and as much as I like Karl Urban (and I like him a lot), here he was just silly with that permanent upside-down smile grimace. I couldn't help but think that he looks like a 12 year old who didn't get the promised dog for birthday, so now he's wearing his new toy helmet and frowns at everyone.

I liked the Stallone one as a "stupid" action flick I dont have anything against it for what it is, but Dredd was much more what I wanted personally. Just personal opinion nothing wrong with that for either of us.

I dont agree about production values, for me the production values were better than most films - but it was a low (relatively speaking) budget film and that does show at least a little bit. People seem to think it was a full high budget hollywood film for some reason when it was a mostly independent, lower budget, mainly British film.

I know it had small budget, but I've seen a lot done with a little. For example the movie Big Game with Samuel L. Jackson had a budget of $9 million, and I found it to be quite interesting visually, with very good cinematography. Dredd had $45 million, and was just dull to look at, for me at least, with nothing in it's visual style or enviroments distracting me from how cheap certain things looked. Maybe it actually portrayed the world of Dredd from the comics very well, and if that's the case, I applaud it. It just did nothing for me.
It's alright.
Reason behind DREDD being flop and then becoming a cult movie (like Fight Club) is it was too much based on the comic book unlike few comic book adaption.

amrit9037: CW should make a tv series on WATCHMEN.
If not a full featured season then at least a mini series.
avatar
Breja: That's the last channel that should have anything to do with Watchmen. They would make something even worse than th Saturday Morning Watchmen.

And really, I think Snyder's movie is as good an adaptation of Watchmen as is possible. There are other great comics, no need to re-try what was already done well.
Breja have you noticed that every review I watched on various youtube channels are all very circle jerky?

I mean Screen Junkies, Channel Awesome personalities, Sam's Reviews, Chris Stuckmann, Moviebob, etc.

They all say the same damn thing:

"There is a good Fantastic Four movie, its called the Increadibles"

and

"The 1990s Roger Corman movie still sucks but it was probably the most "Fantastic Four-ish" will ever get and its alot better then the later 3 movies"

I mean all these cannot be just mere opinions, EVERYONE IS SAYING THE SAME DAMN THING!!!

And I don't like that because than it showcases that all these movie reviewers are all just one big circlejerk. Like are they all in bed with each other or something?

Mostly I've noticed you pay way too much attention to all those review shows.

Oh, and The Incredibles are overrated. Way, waaaaay overrated. Pixar in general is overrated (with the exception of Wall-E).

No that reward for most overrated Pixar movie goes to Inside Out which has become Pixar's Frozen.

But looking back Pixars gallary is not all that.

I found Bug's Life forgattable as of late, Monster's Inc a bit bland, Finding Nemo I have no idea how it almost made $1 billion.

Only movies I like is Increadibles, Ratatoullie, and Up.

But still I prefer Traditional 2D Animation. Fantasia is still disney's masterpiece.

Crosmando: Dear America,

Stop trying to force this superhero garbage down our throats, it doesn't matter how "serious" you try and make it, grown adults wearing capes and tight uniforms is gay and ridiculous and nothing will change this.

Thanks.
If you don't like Superhero movies, don't go see them. Simple solution.

Good advice, but easier said than done. It seems these days, there has to be either has to be a movie based on some comic or a re-make of an old classic (and not many do them justice).

It's almost like there is a lack of future or vision in the film industry and they're left struggling to recycle the same old cruft we already experienced as children.

We need fresh new ideas, fresh stories, new books! There are actually a few good indie films out there; while I prefer the horror genre, the recent apocalyptic one I saw "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" was fairly clever.

I think ultimately the independent films will win out over the big budget studios that might have the money for all the special effects, but not the creativity and imagination which Hollywood is sorely lacking.
I enjoyed 90's Fantastic Four cartoon more than movies.
