Ghostbusters. -- The scene in the beginning of the movie where the fraudster paranormal investigators actually meet their first ghost. It's an old ghost librarian attempting to read a book in peace. The investigators are stunned, ghosts actually exist! This has never happened before, so they are at loss for what to do. Full of excitement, they decide to make contact...

I was in the theater with my parents and little sister. At the climax of that scene my sister threw up everywhere! It was the scariest thing ever, the then impressive special effects in stereo with my sister's spontaneous spew. I was running for my life. I dashed down the aisle several seats and jumped up in the chair to avoid getting caught in the torrent. How a little girl could produce such an ample volume I'll never know, but I do remind her every chance I get. ;)

CARICATUREKILB: Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). Yep. I'm that old
The Sabre Tooth Tiger/Troglodyte fight scene
The genius of the late, great Ray Harryhausen

Luned: Oh yeah! That and Star Wars (to me, there is no Eppsode IV/New Hope nonsense, that film will always be just "Star Wars") are a couple of my first movie memories. Though I'm not entirely sure if I saw Sinbad in the theater or on TV... I know I saw Star Wars in the theater with my big brother.
I remember watching Star Wars at the cinema and I was so excited, that by the start of the attack on the Death Star, I had to run to the toilet to pee. The fastest urination on record!
I was 38 (no, really I was 6!)

I really envy you old guys for having been able to watch the classics in cinema, today we mostly have hundreds of variatons of Michael Bay explosion orgies in 3D for about 10€ per ticket in the big cinemas and I'd have to look for ages to find a good movie in some nieche theater, so I've built my own at home.

Sin City

The scene where hardigan fucks up that yellow bastard. No mercy had and no fucks given.

The Ending of The Dark Knight

Brilliant use the crescendo and a perfect cut to black after Gary Oldman's line. Excellent.

Was the best theatre experiance for years until I saw Fury Road.

Fury Road

After Nux straps Max onto the car and when he fights Furiosa, culminating in 3 rounds spent around her head to drive the point home. Thrilling and perfectly choreographed. The energy jacked you up and strapped you onto the hood of the proverbial V8 that was Fury Road.

The reigning champion of movie going experiances.

Ixamyakxim: Lord of the Rings Two Towers and Return of the King - Siege of Helm's Deep and the skirmishes on the way there, Minas Tirith and Osgiliath. The living, breathing epic cities and fortifications they were able to create for those movies are amazing
I laugh at LOTR alot now, but I saw those in theatres multiple times because I love epic and grand scale movies. I'd be down for a movie with a 5 hour runtime no problem.

Actually I was in a night club showing the Gladiator on the big screen. It was some form of costume night (not halloween) and they had a "roman" theme going on. A couple of the bouncers were dressed up in actual costumes from the set of the movie and some of the girls were in togas. Anyways, they put Gladiator on the screen, running through the night.

At one point, the crowd in the movie is going WILD. The volume in the club is CRANKED. Then, in the most seamless transition I have EVER experienced in audio.... THUNDER.. .... THUNDER.. THUNDER.. THUNDER..

To say the fucking club blew the fuck up would be an understatement.

A night to remember.

that sounds most epic!, wish i had been there
I remember some scenes from "6th sense" that were really spooky in the theater. And I mean REALLY (for some reason the pink bathrobe scene comes to my mind).

TStael: Besides: Lawrence of Arabia (which I saw properly in Paris) - miracle of a film! Preferably do not sully it on DVD format - but if it cannot it be helped, just see it!
avatar
Matewis: Yeah it's pretty high on my list. As soon as I can afford a proper cinematic setup, I want to watch it on blueray, along with ET (still haven't seen it), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (only saw a small part of it), Red Dawn (1984 obviously) and the Back to the Future sequels
I am sure it will be fine - hey, I recap Lawrence on DVD without any frills then and again - but there is nonetheless still something to be said about Paris or other such cities, which have vibrant enough movie scene to allow for 70mm experience @silver screen proper for films that are not current block-busters.

I also have not forgotten the matinée performance where a young boy did not desist stop crying, despite harsh feedback from his mother, because the poor lad found the ice queen of this Russian animation classic too scary. The said queen did freeze living creatures at sight, thou, so I understand the lad! :-)

Should my pined after Lion King be programmed unto a "retro showing" - I'll be there, at the theatre!
