pablossus: What does it even mean next-gen? Is it for next generation of players? Or next generation of hardware? Please keep the original last-gen version available for download
Fallout 4: Next-Gen is built around "next-gen consoles"; namely around AMD hardware in Xbox Series X and PS5 - i.e. which performs 6-8gb VRAM type of RTX 2060-2070 type of GPU power.
I checked NG out on Steam.
IIRC, lighting and shadowing looked quite a bit better on F4 NG, but not entirely worth the performance hit compared to old-version. And it was a pain to get it back to 60fps at 1080p even on my RTX 3070 desktop - but, I got it there, after messing around w/ settings.
Used regular textures, not the HD ones that eat up tons of insane space.
I think most will be still happy w/ F4: Old Gen, TBH; it's fine and you can mod it to heck and back. Unless F4 SE gets working in full on Next Gen, I'd say stick with Old-Gen.
I do wonder if gamers will be able to get the new DLC content (it's on Steam) from the Creation Club - such as the new Enclave stuff - working on F4: NG when it hits on GOG.
Side note - I have F4 GOTY on Steam and GOG.
EDIT - You know, since I have been messing w/ LoseLess Scaling app on games with ELEX 2, Witcher 3, Vampyr, and others with Frame-Gen FG) type of features...might be a good idea to mess around w/ that for Fallout 4 NG version on Steam too. You can really improve performance big time w/ FG and scaling stuff (i.e. up to 2x to 3x's performance). I have a 3060m laptop and 3070 desktop, BTW. It really does wonders for ELEX 2 in DX11 mode.
