Hey all! Unfortunately, the update will come at a later date. The silver lining here is that it may contain additional bug fixes. Our apologies for that inconvenience.

I think is for the better, for what I read the update brings more trouble than solutions...

king_kunat: Hey all, just to be clear: we're still actively working on bringing the next-gen patch here.

It proved to be more difficult than expected but we're determined to make it happen. Once again apologies for the inconvenience.

BattleAgent01: I'm curious, what's the main blocker with the update here? Is it trying to work out the creation club stuff with Bethesda or something different?
Well, as usual I blame Bethesda... Any luck on the mods situation?
Gog, any update when the patch might arrive?
What does it even mean next-gen? Is it for next generation of players? Or next generation of hardware? Please keep the original last-gen version available for download

I think it refers more to the next generation of consoles than anything to do with the PC version. For console gamers there are two new graphical “presets”, Quality and Performance, which allow you to play at 4k or 2k at a certain guaranteed framerate, with or without dynamic resolution scaling. There may be other perks for console users, I haven’t looked into it in any detail because I don’t own a console.

Then there are supposed to be some bug fixes in there. I haven’t seen the full list but I know it’s pretty pathetic. I do know that they haven’t addressed many of the shortcomings of the original release which most people would like to have seen fixed. You still cannot change your FOV via in-game settings, for instance. There’s a great mod called “FOV Slider and Player Height” which comprehensively addresses that problem, however. The claim to have fixed bugs seems like an exaggeration to say the least.

Then there’s the added Creation Club Content, which I guess is what the delay is all about here. Again, I haven’t looked into this in detail, but in the next gen (or “new gen”) FO4 there is some free Creation Club Content, which is a few extra quests and some related content (armor, weapons etc.). Not to be sniffed at, for sure, but not very exciting either if you were going to mod the game anyway, since there are already many mods which do the same thing but do it better.

There was absolutely no good reason from a PC gamer’s point of view to release a new version of Fallout 4. It was done for commercial reasons, and probably to disrupt the modding scene, but what else do we expect nowadays ? If you can make new money out of something old, just do it ! I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes between GOG and Bethesda / Microsoft.

Fallout 4: Next-Gen is built around "next-gen consoles"; namely around AMD hardware in Xbox Series X and PS5 - i.e. which performs 6-8gb VRAM type of RTX 2060-2070 type of GPU power.

I checked NG out on Steam.

IIRC, lighting and shadowing looked quite a bit better on F4 NG, but not entirely worth the performance hit compared to old-version. And it was a pain to get it back to 60fps at 1080p even on my RTX 3070 desktop - but, I got it there, after messing around w/ settings.

Used regular textures, not the HD ones that eat up tons of insane space.

I think most will be still happy w/ F4: Old Gen, TBH; it's fine and you can mod it to heck and back. Unless F4 SE gets working in full on Next Gen, I'd say stick with Old-Gen.

I do wonder if gamers will be able to get the new DLC content (it's on Steam) from the Creation Club - such as the new Enclave stuff - working on F4: NG when it hits on GOG.

Side note - I have F4 GOTY on Steam and GOG.

EDIT - You know, since I have been messing w/ LoseLess Scaling app on games with ELEX 2, Witcher 3, Vampyr, and others with Frame-Gen FG) type of features...might be a good idea to mess around w/ that for Fallout 4 NG version on Steam too. You can really improve performance big time w/ FG and scaling stuff (i.e. up to 2x to 3x's performance). I have a 3060m laptop and 3070 desktop, BTW. It really does wonders for ELEX 2 in DX11 mode.

Memecchi: It's amazing how the update nobody asked for is delaying the mod everyone was waiting for :D
Amen to that! Still waiting on Bethesda to finish updating the mods for GOG.

Looks like Fallout: London devs said that Bethesda's next-gen update isn't stable enough and that they are releasing on the old (non-net-gen) version.

[sarcasm] WTH, Bethesda?! Can you not even release a proper update for your own game?! [/sarcasm]
Jesus, was it really that hard to incorporate a bunch of must have mods (bug fixes, mesh and animation improvements, stability) alongside the 4K resolution and call it a day for the next gen update?

Bethesda REALLY doesn't deserve the community it has

This "next gen" update seems to be a 20% improvement in visuals with a 200% performance cost, while breaking mods. Great job, Bethesda!.
It's been 4 months, any update?
I second the question... how about an update already. Been patiently waiting since purchasing the game here months ago.

Any updates on that front?

I'm not a person with huge technical knowledge, but we want to bring you this patch while being 100% sure that it would not cause more trouble than add improvements. It proves to be a more complex task than we initially thought and I'm sorry that you have to wait for it.
