While I was doing multiple things at once, it crossed my mind to check the latest BR releases ond vdbeaver and blu-ray and then: BOOM! My mind just blew for a second....

Back in the 90's, I discovered Tarkovski through the VHS edited by Artificial Eye and now they're re-editing everything on a tight release schedule and on Blu-Ray with the quality they're known for.

Here are the currently available and updated DVDbeaver comparisons:

So, the schedule according to Amazon UK:

Already available:
-Ivan's Childhood
-Andrei Rublev

25 July:
- The Mirror

8 August:
-Solaris

22 August:
-Stalker

12 September:
-Nostalgia

26 September:
-The Sacrifice

The guy who made this game

(joking) :P
If only I owned an Blu Ray oven, or whatever you call it. Great news that real quality releases are still being put out.
Solaris? The boring novell of Stanislaw Lem? He made a movie of it? Weird!
Shame that none of his films DVDs have audio commentary. I'd love to hear a specialist commenting on one of his movies full-length.

I'm lucky to have acquired both the Ruscico and Criterion editions of Andrei Rublev. Curiously I prefer the shorter, "censored" version to the longer uncut one.I once read that the longer version was made by Tarkovsky as a way to trick the russian film censors. They'd be bored by the long scenes and therefore fail to censor the crucial scenes that Tarkovsky wanted to keep.

The scene where they show the jester's ass comes to mind.

Obviously, you're not a golfer.

The film cuts down on the 'boring' parts. It is still there but much shortened. Even if Stanislaw Lem, the author, himself did not appreciate Tarkovsky's work, many do.

I am happy to read about the re-releses too :-)

Not really an audio commentary but before dying he wrote the book "Sculpting In Time" which goes over his career, where he talks about making-of, his inspirations, his views on cinema and life in general. Very interesting (although I haven't finished it yet).

Note: if you can can read French easily, it's available under the title "Le Temps Scellé" which is much cheaper than the English edition (11,50€ vs 20,69£)

Thanks for the info. I did some research now and I suspect there's even a portuguese version, but it seems to be hard to find. I'll look into it :)
Andrei Rublev is one of my all-time favorite movies, it's full of win. Those long shots are highly immersive.
I've been meaning to watch Andrei Rublev.
