IanM: You're arguing against point of the Union, the market is supposed to be free so that goods and wealth flows between the nations, increasing the prosperity of the poorer nations and promoting overall market growth.
Yes, I already see boost in prosperity of poorer nations, when digital stores will be forced to sell games for 1/3 of median wage in said poor counties. I also see overall market growth, when digital stores will not be able to maximize their profits using price differentiation, and when poor countries will be pushed from civilized market of digital goods.

OlivawR: Nobody is forcing them to sell everywhere at the same price. The ruling is about companies blocking people from Germany buying from Italy (2 EU countries).

Tackling geo-blocking: too many Europeans cannot use online services that are available in other EU countries, often without any justification; or they are re-routed to a local store with different prices. Such discrimination cannot exist in a Single Market.

buktu: So "re-routing to a local store with different prices" is not ok as well.
Of course that would be illegal if you go to site x and they refuse to serve you by sending you to site y That's geo-blocking.

They already do that in poorer countries. Being poor doesn't give you any advantage in the EU.

Corrupt Greek and Italian governments have failed their citizens for sure, but that's not the failure of the EU as a whole.

'Poor' countries with lower wages and costs, no advantage? you can build the same quality products and services and sell them across the whole EU with lower overheads than your competitors in rich countries.

So I guess we better start increasing taxes on products coming from poor countries, what's fair based on median wages? 500% duty on wholesale price of imported copies of the next STALKER/Metro game to come out of the Ukraine? 50% on games developed in Italy?
If economy was really that simple.
