RensisCoren: Kena: Bridge of Spirits So far so good. Does require the
-EpicPortal argument and opens a browser tab, asking for permission to use my Epic profile data, but seems to work nonetheless. Copying to another PC that doesn't have the launcher, we'll see how that goes.
Not so good, as far as I'm concerned.
I had to have the Store Client running to get the game to start, but could shut the client down after starting the game.
I assumed using the correct commands in my shortcut would get round that, but never got far enough to test it.
Epic apparently has a new Overlay feature, Since the last time I bought anything from Epic (2020), and Kena was using it to show achievement popups, even though I didn't have the Epic Store Client running.
Turned out the game had an Epic Overlay DLL and/or Executable (going from memory it was a DLL).
As far as I could tell, you couldn't even turn this overlay off, in game, or even using the store client.
Terminating the running overlay (I use Process Hacker 2, as my Task manager), just resulted in the game restarting it.
I hate achievements, and especially store client/in game overlays.
The only reason I get over 80% of my games from GOG, is the offline installers.
Meaning I have no Store Client running.
So I was done with the game, at that, and refunded it, at that point.
Looking to me that running Epic Games Store Client free, is more down to their incompetence, rather than design.
With Outer Worlds DLC needing Store Client running, and now forcing client overlays, without a store client.
More Epic incompetence?
I'm pretty much done with Epic Games at this point.
Only thing they had, going for them was store client free gaming, without that, they have nothing.
The "Free" games, are bare bones (Without DLC/Expansions) packages, and games I don't want, even for free.
I already own all the old games that I do want, and that's here on GOG.
Much like "Game Pass", their (Not so) huge list of old games, has absolutely no value to me.
