Do we have also versions on GOG of this type of thread for "What Games Can Be Run Without Their Client" for other services?

I'm thinking of other services like say - Origin, UPLAY, Battle.Net, etc etc.

Some games (especially older ones) like Driver Parallel Lines run without UPLAY.
And Mad Max supposedly runs without DRM over there on Origin.

I know we have one for Steam.

No, not yet - but everything that helps DRM-free is welcome so feel free to create one if you feel that the number of games that will run without the client is worth creating a list. :)

I'm not sure if the list would be big, as those clients often have more first-party stuff protected by their own DRM systems.

But, they do have the occasional game - especially older titles - that may not have DRM.

Maybe if it was created...a thread might be worthwhile to compile a few of those altogether?

What is the purpose of the "egstore" folder you see in every game folder? Is it really needed for DRM Free games (after copying them to another location) and is it safe to just delete it?

It's probably just a "meta-data" thing like GOG's own *.info, *.hashdb, etc, files which seem to be completely ignored by the game itself but are used by client when "scanning" folders to add games, do integrity check, etc. I think I deleted the folder once from an install of Epic's version of The Witness, and the game still worked fine. Best way to test is just to move the whole egstore folder elsewhere and start the game. If it works you could probably delete it, it not you can move it back.

It's the token the client uses tor authentication of your game installation. If you're archiving your games for backup it's actually better to copy the lot then delete everything in the game folder BUT the .egstore folder. Your client will complain that your installations need "repairing" but as long as you don't click on them in your library simply extracting the game back into the install folders will restore the game back ready to play.

Nope. And it not only needs the EGS client running but the Rockstar client stuff as well.

And this is why I'm tempted to buy the game for £11..
But theres no point if I got it for free.

No, it doesn't matter but you need it if you want the game to be displayed as installed in the client.
