I don't know how relevant this is to some of you foreigners, but anyone watch the final episode of Late Night With Conan O'Brien? I was too young to watch Late Night when Conan started in '93. But it's weird because since high school if I was staying up doing something you just sort of expect to have Conan turned on in the background. He's still going to be around at the Tonight Show, but being here at the end of an era is always unsettling.
I watched Jimmy Fallon's first show, but I never found him that funny or likeable and he didn't prove otherwise with his debut. I'll stick with Conan on the Tonight Show.
NBC needs to stop giving jobs to SNL stars just because they were on SNL. Jimmy Fallon is just no good at his new show. I could only stomach about 15 minutes before i had to change the channel.

Yep total lack of personality or charisma. Fallon's crappiness made me was curious about what Conan was like back when he started. So I went to download a torrent of a VHS rip of his first show. Turns out Conan pretty much was the character he is today if somewhat less refined. The goofy moves, non-sensical humor, and the personable way he conducts interviews were all there from the beginning.
I heard this was happening. I think we are a day or two behind the US screenings, but I skip most TV now anyway. Conan's was good, a little zany - which I gathered he was hoping to escape from a bit with the change to the Tonight Show.
Conan reportedly started off to low reviews with The Late Show, but did not take long to get going. I've not liked Jimmy Fallon, or his comedy, it's most likely to be a skip.

Quite the contrary. As he was leaving, he was saying that people told him he should be more mature since he's going to the Tonight Show. But he said that he can only be the zany personality that he's always been. I don't think he's going to change much once he gets to L.A.
Jimmy Fallon is a douche. Conan FTW.
Yeah I knew this was going to happen but I was never sure when. I think it was only on paytv here and at least when I had pay, it only had that one show I wanted to watch and no matter how good Conan was, it wasn't au$80/month good
Here in Finland Conan O'Brien was just an awesome talkshow and everyone knew it when it started here at around 2001 ( just cant recall the start correctly as i was about 10 years old by then). He was 4x funnier and better than any of our own lame talk show hosts, so every youngster watched at least a few episodes, and it was most watched show of the channel until big brother started ( lol ). I'm sad that the show is over but awell the guy isnt dead yet! Tonight show will be starting in Finland too so i'm gonna check that one out too.
Oh btw only other talk show i've watched has been some random oprah, ellen degenerous or something and jimmy kimmel. Still conan was my favourite, though jimmy was somewhat funzie too. Cheers Conan had alot of laugh because of you.
he also bore that rather surprising resemblance to the Finnish President...

Haha.... Yeah, that was a whole schtick that he kept going for a while. Tarja Halonen was her name. Conan even visited her when he was in Finland.
But Vetomydi, I'm not sure how talkshows work in Finland, but the other shows you're talking about (Oprah, Ellen, etc) are daytime shows which are bland, whitebread and utterly humorless. While Conan is a late night talkshow which is worlds of a difference here in the States. The comedy is on late night tend to be "edgier" and more "mature". Leno and Letterman are the other two big shot late night hosts here, but I grew up watching Conan so I tend to stay with him over the years.

I'm really more of a Letterman person myself, since I grew up watching him. But Conan is one of those shows I tend to watch if I flip around and see it on.

I never watched late night shows until my later years in high school so I missed out on the earlier funnier comedian that was Letterman. He's just so tame now compared to some of the bits I see on youtube of his earlier antics.

Meaning that Letteman is so awesome that that's all needs to be said. Or do you hate him that much?

Well it depends on which Letterman. New age Letterman or upstart Letterman.
