I moved to ps4 for new games, and gog for everything else, and it seems like a good compromise for me. Having steam on my pc with all the associated problems pissed me off continually. I m hoping that ps4 games play on the ps5, but i don t replay games anyway.
from what I hear, personal information was only leaking to random users for less than an hour. still, this is pretty bad, but credit card information was not among the information leaked. apparently people weren't able to make purchases with other people's info, and the majority of personal user information leaks were from people making it worse themselves by posting it on twitter.

it's not Valve's fault that people are shortsighted fucking dicks.

honestly, having the caching issue fixed within an hour, on christmas, is pretty good. no credit card information was leaked. besides all that, due to the fact that the information which was leaked was leaked to random individuals and not a motivated actor working towards some kind of agenda, I'm not really certain on how much damage has actually been done. and if any has been done, as much of the blame lies with the idiots posting the information on the web as with Valve.

edit: I still love you Gaben

A security breach could also happen to GOG, unfortunately (even if the combo ninja squirrel & GOGbear is the safest anti piracy system).

And what would they get? They don't store cc details, pretty limited information for the account, and all your games are DRM free and backed up offline in a secure location (they are aren't they?). Hence nothing to worry about. Unless you rely on the website to get your games?
GOG just needs more titles to attract new members. Some Steam users are interested to have DRM-free version of their Steam libraries. So if they see those games on GOG, they will come here.

I would think that the Steam users who want DRM-free copies of their games would have already bought them here on GOG (at least, for the games that are available on both services).

As for any exodus of Steam users...it would be nice, on one hand, I suppose. On the other hand, there are vocal hardliners who despise the idea of DRM-free games. And yes, I know I sound like an elitist when I say this, but I'm not sure if GOG getting another flood of Steam users is necessarily a good thing. Anyone remember what happened when the Alan Wake games came to GOG?

Sooo, was it really a hack after all? Last time I checked, nobody knew for sure and the most likely explanation was a terrible mistake by Valve...

Yes, that's the reason why I mentioned "more games" in previous post. More games -> more members. Because every new title is capable to bring new users. Specially the top rated and most wanted games. Also, bigger library helps GOG to become more popular among players.
GOG does not need to have a huge library like Steam to achieve that goal. Some AAAs and popular indies are enough. IMO, some of those top voted games on community wishlist should be priority.

mm324: GOG will get some new converts, but the relatively small selection of newer games will turn most people away. This may be sacrilegious to say but I'd like to see GOG make a serious effort to add games that are less than 5 years old. I like my older games but to be able to have a chance of attracting Steam people GOG has to have the games they want to buy. If GOG had a bigger consumer base they would be able to get better deals on distribution, that's good for them and us.
I think plenty of people want to see newer (non-indie) games here; I want to see newer games here that have plenty of wishlist votes. The reasons newer (non-indie) games aren't here probably go without saying. GOG still has trouble getting some older games here unfortunately.

I remember the Alan Wake games coming but not what you're referring to exactly. Were a lot of people pissed they weren't getting Steam keys from GOG or something?
