FYI: apparently the game 'King of Seas' doesn't allow players to save their game, unless they are using Galaxy. Apparently it was mentioned in the Insomnia promo thread (I can't post links). I don't have the game, but perhaps someone could confirm?

I had never had this one installed before to my recollection.

Download King of Seas offline installer. (English, Windows, version 1.20)
Close Galaxy 1.2 that I have installed/run on this computer.
Install.
Exit installer.
Run game (KOS.exe)
Change some preferences/options and exit.
Relaunch game: SOME [graphics] preferences stuck, most [language, game, sound, gamma] did not.
Set preferences again, set keybindings this time, start new game (lowest difficulty, Marylou, select 1st save slot).
Skip cinematic.
...Following tutorial, waiting for opportunity to save (game indicates it's an auto-save game, so waiting for that icon too).
...Tutorial quest, return, cutscene, cutscene to pirates.
...Tutorial battle.
...Tutorial mission, repair, stock ship, etc.
...Tutorial delivery, return to base, specialist, cutscenes.
Map says "dock and save". Do so. Exit to main menu.
Look at load game menu, my save is there. Main menu also has continue.
Exit game.
Start game.
INDEED: All saves are absent, preferences [except graphics and keybindings] are missing.

I concur: Game doesn't let you save. Submitting a ticket.
(Shame. Game seems like it could be a fun twist on Sid Meier's Pirates!.)

EDIT:
Check save game path listed on PCGamingWiki, it has no files. Config location has some files.

EDIT2: If I can actually find a goddamned way to submit a ticket. The stupidly useless gatekeeping chatbot is in the way.

mqstout:
Thanks for confirming. To be fair, it seems like it's probably more of a bug than an intentional DRM. Hopefully, GOG can contact the developer to get it patched.

cypherpunkswrite: Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2. Easy Anti-Cheat installation.

Possible to disable (reviews quote):
Game may be launched without Easy Anti Cheat by using -noEAC launch command or GOG Galaxy option.

Lifthrasil: Thank you for the information. But EAC alone, especially if it can be disabled, isn't really DRM. Still, owners of the game should be informed about how to disable it. It's a shame that one needs to read the reviews to learn how to disable EAC, and that one doesn't have the option, not to install it.
I think all these points about EAC, designed online only etc. miss the point. Ask yourself, why is DRM bad? The answer is removal of your control over the product. Thus using DRM as being the “bad thing” is simply misleading. DRM could include a code wheel, which is inconsequential, or be rootkit system locked which is not inconsequential. Anything which impedes the user control over their product is bad, and things like EAC, online only, streaming etc. are in many ways far worse than DRM, you can crack DRM but if you don’t have the files in the first place…
So yes, unless you deal with the underlying issues, the whole DRM thing is pretty minimal in the general scheme of things.
Yes, let's hope that the dev fixes this bug! Meanwhile I add a warning which I'll remove as soon as it's fixed.

Dug up the Insomnia thread mentioned to send to GOG support that has yet to replicate (though I suspect they never test on air-gapped computers sans Galaxy, like they should!)

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/keep_your_eyes_wide_open_and_get_the_best_deals_during_our_insomnia_promo_a77de/post594

And a game-specific forum post:
https://www.gog.com/forum/king_of_seas/game_is_not_saving_no_save_file

EDIT: Found a thread dated starting Jun 29, 2021 @ 2:39am on the Scam website forums for the game where someone commented on the GOG version not saving.

This is another good example of "games should not implement cloud save APIs, in fact, cloud save APIs shouldn't exist. Games should just save locally and leave any cloud syncing to the client. The most that should happen is the game informing the client of its own save location".

Sounds like an accidental(?) DRM, but it needs to be investigated further.

I don't know what OnlineSubsystemGOG is supposed to do. So it's hard to tell whether it is DRM or some kind of multiplayer-component. But yes, it should be investigated. Thank you for pointing it out.

GOG support replied that they're still investigating King of Seas. So I assume they're making contact with publisher and/or developer.

Yes, after 30 days of fruitless discussions, they refunded me.
The developer was also informed, without more results.

They don't care.

In that case it's definitely DRM. If a game needs Galaxy to run at all, it's fully DRM-ED.

What about the base game? Did that work without Galaxy?
