TStael: Before the Euro dinge and all that - I feel rather cheerfully honoured actually! :-D

sunshinecorp: Before ANYTHING.

I mean I find the story in DA2 so generic and dull it hurts, nevermind how terrible the gameplay and the ceaseless repetition of maps is. Densely written? Oh, no.

And to put DA2 in the same sentence with a godly RPG like PS:T was so beyond heretical that you blew my mind. Well done, I was truly shocked to my very core! People are still trying to pry the flamer from my trembling hands!

That said, DA:O is still one of my favorite cRPGs, but again nowhere near true gems like PS:T, Fallout series etc.
I quite disagree - but still I really like yer style suneshinecorp (possibly), because it is so earnest. :-) As is my love of DA2, or PS:T for that matter.

And would suggest you put that flamethrower aside by your own volition - btw - my love of both games is sincere, so I think you would only discredit your own equally sincere dislike, because it is no better or worse - morally.

Or?

Let me push my heresy a little further: in case M&KB (mouse & keyboard) is your preferred interface; and strength of lore (u rather like Morrowind, right?) a pleasure - I dare state you might see DA2 just a little better after trying your hands on DA:I.

Cannot recommend u put forward much, or almost, money to test this hypotheses though!!

No, I really dislike Morrowind and Bethesda games in general, though I did like Arena (the first Elder Scrolls) because at the time it was alright, I guess. I also hated Fallout 3 (I belong to those people who say it's not even Fallout) but loved FO:NV.
As for DA2/PS:T (I still think it unimaginable and heathenly to put them in the same sentence, and it's your fault that I do!) it matters not if you love both games. Sure, it's a matter of opinion and taste. Even if you love them both (though I cannot understand how) you still cannot compare DA2 to PS:T. They simply are not on the same level. PS:T is a universally and critically acclaimed masterpiece, and for good reason. DA2 isn't.

Oh well, just expand your imagination - or just grab back that flamethrower in case of failure, eh! ;-)

Sorry to provoke you - or probably not, to be earnest - but while PS:T pretty much forced you to be a high WIS/INT mage sort of character, at least DA2 allowed one to well enjoy being a dual wielding rogue, beside any other class.

DA:I would prefer a ranged character, for that matter, but for far less lore.

PS:T to my mind posed the question about the nature of the man in a fanciful, but also relevant setting - while DA2 was surprisingly brutal pointing out how bigoted the nature of man is.

Huh?
First time I finished PS:T I did it as a thief.
In fact, I never played a mage in it as I dislike mages in general. I played several other combinations over the years.
How does the game force you to be a mage, exactly? Maybe you need to expand YOUR imagination. :p

clisair: I play DA:I on the PS3 so have no experience with what it is like on the PC. I am enjoying the game though. My first playthrough was 102 hours

TStael: And how about Dragon Age Origin (DA:O) or Dragon Age 2 (DA2)? Have you played, and if so, you like how?
Have played both DA 1 and DA 2 and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Ham hands can get a little anoying at times. The hands were ugly monster things in DA 1 but got better in #2. In DA:I they were just right.

Loved all the deep roads stuff in the first one. The second didn't have enough of it and DA:I it was almost nonexistent. They were fun though. DA:I seems, to me, that it is a blend of the other 2 as far as the controls go but the combat is definitely a progression of #2.

I have still to try all of the starting lines but the dwarven actually seems to have more going on at the start than the other starter quest lines. I haven't tried the elvin one yet though. I even have Awakening for DA:O which was interesting.

Ok, you can of course also play a thief with extraordinary INT/WIS - not exactly benefitting your specific class abilities.

This is of necessary in case you want to delve deep into lore of the game, and to gain experience of regaining memories, Dakkon's spell discs etc.

You can of course also forgo story elements, XP, Dakkon's spells etc - but in case this seems like a sacrifice, INT/WIS is must be.

I think it is true to say that PS:T balancing was not neutral across class choices - the balancing was very poor in fact - but it does not make it a bad game, because the writing was there. So it was for DA2 - methinks! And very sadly absent for DA:I.
