wolfsrain: As tomimt said. Focus on the skills. Check the descriptions carefully. Build accordingly. The rogue has high evasion and a ton of defense, as Cunning counts toward defense in DA2. Your main problem won't be the melee enemies. Your problem will be the spellcasters. Kill those using the high damage moves (like the twin fangs and backstab, complemented by a few shadow/subterfuge passive skills) and you will have a blast seeing how the enemy melee are just annoying flies.
I find mages surprisingly easy to kill with my party in Dragon Age 2, in fact they are much less annoying than in Dragon Age Origins. If my rogue takes any melee or archer damage he goes down after a few hits so I do try to keep away from archers and make the melee enemies attack my warrior.
