I`m worried about the apparent forced `Gog galaxy`. Some games such as Worms World Partyy seem to be forced with it. Isn`t this client supposed to be totally optional? I like GOG because I`m not forced to run yet ANOTHER client on my pc. Origin, Steam, UBI, I already reduced buying anything from these guys by 90% and was buying way more stuff per year from GOG.

Now you guys are jumping on this crap. Seriously, I don`t need these clients, and don`t try to sell me the `achievements/friends/patching` bs, I didn`t need any of that with the other clients (until they forced it) and I don`t need it now. You`re doing the exact same crap; gradually forcing this client onto EVERYONE until it`s mandatory, just like with Steam. What is it with you companies that start ok, then get this `must shove a client like Steam on players` fetish? Is it greed? Some Marketing money suit tell you what you must do and the bosses eyes light up with $$? If you follow down Steam`s road, then I can assure you, you will no longer be of any use to me, I may as well go back to Origin, UBI or Steam.
So Please, GOG- STOP IT!

I'm sure it works the same as The Witcher Board Game and some of the others. You don't need the client, it just uses the Galaxy backend. You won't even know it's there.

WTF are you talking about? No one forces you.

Socratatus:
My guess is that the Galaxy backend is used by the multiplayer. Which in turn enables you to play with others on Steam for example.

Ok... So we can still play our games offline with no having to be online or registering crap first?

I hope you are right. I will be keeping watch!

Thanks for the fast responses!

Yes. You can even play a game you don't own on GOG through Galaxy if you want. Not sure if Galaxy multiplayer is supported in that case though.

I don't have the new Worms, but I never encountered any problem. And I don't use Galaxy at all...

Note:
Worms World Party Remastered multiplayer will be powered by Team17's infrastructure, with GOG Galaxy support for remaining features.

→ You'll also be able to use the online multiplayer function without Galaxy.

Wasn't talking about Worms World Party Remastered specifically. Was talking about games generally. If I have AvP installed on my computer and someone else logs in Galaxy with their account that doesn't have AvP, will they be able to use Galaxy for multiplayer or not?
Just meditate on the word 'optional' and you'll be fine. I'm kind of not bothered if something ridiculous like 'mandatory' happened anyway. It will stop me from buying games ever again :3
Are you still pissed about that whole hemlock thing?

I had (still do) the same concerns as you. In the first few games, DDragon, Witcher AGame, the Galaxy was installed automatically without option. I have been told via this forum that this is not the case with new releases, although there remain some libraries present in the game install which enable the multiplayer side to function if required.
Now me personally am not touching WAG (got a refund) and DD, and am cautious of buying new ones coming out, but if it does remain inert multiplayer libraries only then it should be ok - and yes, I don't like/use client software, social side of gaming etc.
More worrying is the DEFCON thread. But I would imagine anyways, there will be a drastic move towards client based, social networking in the future, maybe not now, maybe several years, but it will happen.
My advice, just wait on newer games and see what feedback is. Avoid pre-orders and such like. Those areas are where the main problems will start.
Well, if this was as "optional" as pretended, I wouldn't have installed it to begin with... Not that I exactly "chose" it, was more like a knife under my throat if I wanted some features : patches, DLCs. I do not regret it, but....it still stings...

Who forced you?

You can still use the old downloader

https://www.gog.com/downloader

you don´t need Galaxy
lol When I installed a new physical game. If I wanted the patch/DLCs of said game I had to install GOG. Oh and the game immediatly installed itself on gog galaxy, making me ponder what would have happened if I had said no.
