It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).

I do not have an interest in using Galaxy, so will GOG still support using the GOG downloader?
it remains a viable option for the foreseeable future

I'll quote their own answer to that question.
We won't disable the GOG downloader on launch day, but we will no longer actively support it. The downloader may be affected as we continue updating our infrastructure, but we don't plan to disable it intentionally.
So it will work... until it doesn't.

It will probably depreciate as they start to use GOG downloader servers for GOG Galaxy.
I assume you'll be able to archive the game installers downloaded though galaxy at some point?
They officially stopped supporting it shortly after they announced GOG Galaxy, hence they removed the support thread from the stickies. They had stopped answering in that thread a while earlier already.
They said one can continue to use it, but any changes made to the site or game content won't take it into account in the future, and they won't update it to work with newer editions of Windows.

I think that there were already reports about not being able to use it to download the newer installers for a couple of the unbundled games.

You can right now.
The gog downloader will be supported but no longer updated in the future. It is safe to still use it.

It seems GOG downloader stopped working on me. Anyone else having the same problems?

Make sure to actually download the installers through More->Get Backup & Extras though, rather than simply clicking "install".

THANK YOU
I'll need to reinstall it soon and I don't want to be up all night looking for the damn thing. :P

Browser download is still fine...

Doesn't work for me. GOG support seems not being willing to help either. I tried both Windows 7 and 8.1 and it won't let me log in. It says the username and password is incorrect. Logging in through the GOG website and Galaxy is working fine though.
