Neverwinter nights Shadow Undertide also sounds like what you're describing, except for the part about the airship. You can have a look at the wild shapes feat of the druid here: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Wild_shape. You can shapshift into a wolf, and later a dire wolf. Just bear in mind that Neverwinter nights has tons of user created modules, perhaps one of them with an airship in the beginning.
