buying anything on gog is never, really NEVER a good idea!

Mortius1: I took the flash deal opportunity to purchase Pillars of Eternity definitive edition on GOG ...
Yep, it was a great discount, so I grabbed it too.

But alas, it is one of next week's freebies at Epic ... who'd have thought? Maybe that was deliberate due to great sales at GOG, but what a bugger for us .... not really though, as it was a great price and guaranteed DRM-Free ... so I ain't really complaining. :)

StingingVelvet: The number of PC gamers who boycott Steam entirely is infinitesimally small, practically non-existent. It's an unrealistic expectation .....
I don't totally boycott them myself, though like many I deliberately limit myself to freebies mostly at Steam, or very cheap (dirt cheap) DRM games, that for some reason I cannot live without, and that if they did eventually turn up at GOG, I am not gonna worry I paid too much the first time when I buy again.

I bought the Valve Collection a few years back, as extremely doubtful any of those games will turn up here at GOG, and what I paid amounted to around a dollar or two per game, so extremely dirt cheap.

I also did a similar thing recently with missing Tomb Raider and Lara Croft games, though I paid slightly more per game, but never enough to deter me re-buying at GOG if they ever turn up here and they sell for the usual fair price in a sale.

I also grabbed some Total War games that were going dirt cheap.

All the rest, hundreds in fact, were all freebies.

Pretty rare for me to go searching for DRM games at Steam, usually I only see them in passing or hear about them. In fact, one of the reasons I got some of the Tomb Raider games, was because I'd just gotten a couple free there and noticed they currently had a big sale on them with great prices. I did not buy the latest two, as they did not pass the price test. I also only bothered because I am a Tomb Raider fan, just like I am a Half-Life fan, and Total War fan.

The best protection against my urges I find, is to avoid what costs too much or has DRM. In other words I don't check them out. Obviously something I am a fan of is a slight exception. However, with the latest two Tomb Raider games, I did not investigate them at all, don't want to know anything about them until they reach a fair price point ... one that is much much lower if they have DRM.
Let's be fair. I already have a Steam account, and bought a lot of games in the past, before I started buying stuff on GOG. So that's that. I still "transfer" my games (read: re-buy) to GOG, but still have a fair amount on Steam.

However - Some games are just worth a purchase, even if they are heavy DRM-ed. I am talking about games like Persona 4 Golden. That's a game that probably never will come to GOG, or at least not in the near future. As much I hate to have DRM-ed games, sometimes there is no way around (no - I don't "ride the high seas" if you get what I mean).

Sure - I could wait for years if the games comes to GOG - If ever, but you see... next year I will be 66, and who knows if I survive until that game will ever come to GOG (and combine Covid with my age, then chances of survival go down by a margin). So - Yes. In these special cases (a game that I really badly want to play, but is DRM-ed), I purchase my game on Steam. Hate me for it, but there is simply no alternative (apart from not playing the game at all, what's no real option for me).

So yes, I prefer to buy my games on GOG, and even have the patience to wait until the game appears on GOG (like Horizon Zero Dawn), but there are games that you know will have a very slim or even zero chance to appear on GOG. That's the harsh reality.
Not anymore after gog's announcement that Cyberpunk has content locked behind the galaxy client.

Oh yes, even as a Galaxy user, i do agree this might not be nice.

But i think it's mainly done to encourage Steam/console/Stadia/Epic Games Store users to come here. Let's say your favourite platform is Steam. You set up a GOG account to get goodies. By the way, you buy Diablo+hellfire because it's the game of your childhood. And now some money has been earned by CDPR.

But i see your point.

If you have some old PC you don't use, try installing GOG Galaxy there, claiming the goodies through there, and then installing them on your main, Galaxy-free PC.

I lost the incentive to support GOG. They screwed their long time costumers way too much in the last few years. There are no principles left for them.

That's what I do for the Epic Games Store. But I won't bother with Galaxy, I'll just skip the games infected with its requirement.
I mainly do it to support DRM free, but this stance may change in the future if GOG continues to push gwent and kill drm free for profit, which I will jist go back to steam anyways
