I don't play that much outside of mobile, and there I mostly play old PC games or indies, so I can't fully comment about this, but I will anyway.

There are games I'm sure I will like, or that I played a little and enjoyed. I imagine I'd enjoy Life Is Strange (Square Enix), and I bought and played some Child of Light (Ubisoft) with my kids and generally enjoyed it. I imagine I'd enjoy the Dragon Age games (EA), including the new one. WB publishes the LEGO games, and these tend to be fun. Activision, can't think of anything.

My backlog does have some games I want to play such as Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham, so I can certainly see myself enjoying more games from these publishers, even if they're just milking these franchises.

I'm not really a fan of any publisher, but I also don't care that much about their policies. All publishers and developers have a goal of making money by satisfying gamers, and the pendulum goes between these. When a publisher does things which the gamers think are too obnoxious, sales drop and the publisher changes things. Things come to a middle ground. That middle ground may not be to everyone's taste, but personally I don't have a big problem with it.
Usually I do not follow the series, I buy just the first game. If I like the first game, I seek information on the second. There are very few series that I followed... Looking at triple A games just Hitman, Deus Ex and Bioshock... but I really don't know if I will buy the new hitman or deus ex mankind divide.
There are several series that I interrupted (only among the big publishers): Batman (because Denuvo), Dragon Age (because Denuvo) and The Witcher (because too much action, I did not like the second, is not cross-platform and it costs too much with expansion pass).
I gave up for now, but in the future?
Such as Batman Arkham Knight will be released soon for Mac and Linux ... if one day they take away denuvo I will buy it gladly. Dragon Age Inquisition with new origin access (when it will arrive in Italy) I'll play it gladly. Finally Witcher 3. If the EE arrive, for mac and linux, at a good price I'll buy it despite the action.

The main problem now is Denuvo (for games triple A).
The number two issue is being mono-platform (windows ... I'm not interested in consoles).

For this reason with the indie is more simple ... they are often DRM-free and multi-platform.

On the other hand I do not see what the problem is to stop a series.
I only played the first Assassin's Creed, the first Amnesia, the first The Book of Unwritten Tales, the first two Fallout, the first Dungeon Keeper, the first Dragon Age etc ...
There is no need to always buy the same series ...
We should just buy video games that:
1. we want to play soon (not after month)
2. they have a good price (they are discount)
3. preferably are DRM-free (or they are free ... or almost).
4. they are preferably multi-platform (because you never know when you change your operating system) or compatible with wine, or very old (up to put themselves on the virtual machine).

However, there are also publishers from which I am not going to buy anymore:
Bethesda and TellTale.
Bethesda because I tried Skyrim and I just hate that game, so I bought Morrowind (to try the "best") and still I really don't like much... they make large world full of nothing... Morrowind it's better than Skyrim, I don't know why... but it's still a strange game. (That's why I played Fallout 1-2 but I didn't even try 3-4).

TellTale because I bought Tales of Monkey Island... I got some problems (with audio fix on chapter 2) and their support treat me like shit.
I do not care a lot of their games ... But before the games I have no intention to support a company that mistreats its customers.

I am waiting for Dishonored 2 from Bethesda and Arkane Studios. After the release you can burn Bethesda all you want. I will be occupied.
i play just old games so far, but there are few new games that i think i would like. mainly open worlds's possibilities are wider with present hardware.

i look for try gta V and skyrim. on the other hand gameplay superiority of oldies is mostly obvious to ones who plays either, old and new games.

MacArthur: I gave up on most publishers and mainstream gaming at the end of the last generation. At that point, there wasn't any game left on consoles not critically dumbed down or hysterically based on instinct gaming. For intelligent games, indies are all that's left (and I'm not even going on the drm and f*cked up pratices).
This is how I feel too. Too many AAA games feels like interactive movies or arcade games. Might be because I don't look hard enough but it sure seems that genre diversity for AAA games have gone down the drain.

The only AAA games I look forward to is The Elder Scrolls from Bethesda. I'm still in love with their free roaming alternate world games. :)
I'm still a fan of Rockstar. Yes, their Social Club can be a mess, yes, their stance on DRM seems to be deplorable, but I still enjoy practically everything they do. (GTA IV included.)

Blizzard? Blizzard's been shite since WoW enabled them to not have to do anything else than make either poor sequels or dumbed down clones of other peoples' ideas. I have zero faith left in them. (I hear Diablo 3's expansion was a return to form, but I haven't played it yet, so I can't corroborate this.)

Bethesda is 50/50 for me. I detest that they own the Fallout franchise, but I'm also glad it's not just plain dead. I enjoyed Skyrim and have probably 200+ hours in it and probably an equal amount in Fallout 4. (Mainly just messing around with the settlement builder and running around doing things that aren't story related.)

I have no faith in EA and will not buy their games at anything less than a sharp discount. I also won't buy any more Dragon Age or Mass Effect games. The Bioware I loved is dead, and as such, it's unfair for me to hold them to the same standards I held the Bioware of the past to. I can't apologize for having standards though.

Ubisoft won't see a dime from me unless it's via humble bundle and I can select them seeing zero dollars from my contribution.

Warner Brothers obviously needed to warn a brother that they no longer give two shits about the PC market, but still intended on dumping shoddy ports on it. (Until the MK X ultimate edition incident, ofc.)
Currently I am looking forward to the following games.

Mafia 3
Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
Oriental Empires
Endless Space 2
Stellaris
Door Kickers 2

Really hoping for a media announcement about Blood and wine soon.
i have given up on them
