Embrace your adventurous inner child with The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Jungle Book!

Good stories never fall out of style. And if someone knows how to tell a proper fairytale, that's got to be Disney. Today, three of their most celebrated, charming platformers of yore based on such tales are coming back, exclusively on GOG.com. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are all household names that still captivate our imagination, decades after we got introduced to their cinematic and videogame worlds.

That's why GOG.com and Disney heave teamed up to bring these beloved classics of the 16-bit era to a new generation of gamers and Disney fans. All three titles have been meticulously updated to be compatible with modern operating systems while preserving the original graphics, sound, and gameplay.

Developed during the golden age of platformers, Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book established themselves as hallmarks of the genre, earning the praise of fans and critics alike for over two decades. That was due in no small part to their groundbreaking visuals. With the advent of Digicel technology, hand-drawn cels from Disney's animation team brought the characters to life with a level of vibrancy that was unparalleled at the time, and remains impressive today. Just look at how adorable little Simba looks when he roars at his enemies!

Return to these beautiful worlds, full of that unmistakable Disney charm and wondrous sense of adventure. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com and you can get them for 10% off individually, or for 33% off as a bundle of heartwarming joy until August 8, 12:59 PM UTC!

muntdefems: What console did you have, if I may ask? Because I've got my own empirical evidence of me playing both the PC and Mega Drive versions and finding them equivalent.

It seems like the SNES version was actually different in some respects to the other ones, though.
The SNES version of the Lion King simply looks and sounds immensely better (though it is a bit harder, mechanics are slightly different) and the PC versions of Aladdin and Jungle Book have laggy scrolling and screen tearing. Also all three have subjectively worse music instrumentation on PC.

PaterAlf: Anyone else remembers "We need regional pricing to bring brand new AAA games here, but we won't do it for our classic catalogue."?
avatar
muntdefems: Many do remember, but unfortunately the ones that have an actual say in this issue do not (or act as if the didn't). :\
Oh yes... :-(

DOS versions of the games... Not really the versions I want to play toady, but hey: Good old Games and that's ok!
If they are going to release stuff like this, where are the Duck Tales games?

Honestly these do not interest me, but at least Disney is still releasing things here. I just wish it was more Monkey Islands.
I remember playing The Lion King and Aladdin but never The Jungle Book, probably because I didn't find it on the abandonware website I was using at the time.

Good to see them here and as for being the DOS versions I wouldn't have it any other way :D

ReynardFox: ...and the PC versions of Aladdin and Jungle Book have laggy scrolling and screen tearing.
Now *that* I definitely don't remember (at least for Aladdin, as I never played any version of Jungle Book). Maybe your PC was struggling to run them?

I'll concede you the music aspects, as I've never been very musically inclined. :P

tinyE: I didn't even know these were games. :P

IAmSinistar: Likewise.

They have a distinct "Titus The Fox" look and feel to them. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of Disney pablum, though their continue monkeying with copyright law is also part of that.
I'm flat out not a fan of the genre period. Gonna pass but still a nice release for GOG.

It should silence the "why aren't there any good old games" people here for at least three or four minutes.

muntdefems: Yeah, but the PC-DOS version is not included in this comparison.
most comparisons seem to go between the snes and megadrive version

at a quick glance and the color use the pc version is a port of the snes version

In doing a quick YouTube, i can't find a single video of Aladdin or Jungle book that don't have choppy scrolling and bad tearing.

madammina: Didn't play these, but TARZAN. Oh I loved Tarzan. Price is up there, but not horrible.

I'll get it when I clear up some of my backlog. (pokes Bastion and Trails, among others)
avatar
snowkatt: ..ill never be able to clear my backlog
Same here. But if I can actually beat some of them, I'll feel a bit better about buying others. Admittedly, part of it is my computer is crap. (At least it has stopped lagging when the only thing I have running is two tabs open in Chrome) but that has held off on me playing a few of them.

Others though, work fine. I just need to the time.

And THEN I can buy new games.

lion king pc is fairly smooth though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fv6TscQ1Qc
I must admit I am not that much into old 2D platformers, so... at least these must wait for a deeper discount.

I recall seeing and playing Aladdin and Lion King a long time ago, the PC versions seemed pretty ok. They even had digitized music and sound effects, not the normal Adlib crap like most PC games.

sadly i always buy new games
cause there is always a cool bundle or cool sale for a cool game
i bought a load of megadrive games on bundle stars

in fact i got spares !
The Lion King. The memories. Good thing I'm so broke right now.

I don't know the other games but I'll be watching all of these. Watching...

(Yeah, I also think they are expensive...)

Next, Cold Shadow?
Cute, but with the unfair pricing I'll definitely wait for a sale.
How are the DOS ports anyway?
Thanks, but the price... o_O
