Embrace your adventurous inner child with The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Jungle Book!

Good stories never fall out of style. And if someone knows how to tell a proper fairytale, that's got to be Disney. Today, three of their most celebrated, charming platformers of yore based on such tales are coming back, exclusively on GOG.com. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are all household names that still captivate our imagination, decades after we got introduced to their cinematic and videogame worlds.

That's why GOG.com and Disney heave teamed up to bring these beloved classics of the 16-bit era to a new generation of gamers and Disney fans. All three titles have been meticulously updated to be compatible with modern operating systems while preserving the original graphics, sound, and gameplay.

Developed during the golden age of platformers, Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book established themselves as hallmarks of the genre, earning the praise of fans and critics alike for over two decades. That was due in no small part to their groundbreaking visuals. With the advent of Digicel technology, hand-drawn cels from Disney's animation team brought the characters to life with a level of vibrancy that was unparalleled at the time, and remains impressive today. Just look at how adorable little Simba looks when he roars at his enemies!

Return to these beautiful worlds, full of that unmistakable Disney charm and wondrous sense of adventure. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com and you can get them for 10% off individually, or for 33% off as a bundle of heartwarming joy until August 8, 12:59 PM UTC!

damien: all good games. I have fond memories especially with the Lion King. As far as I remember, PC versions were inferior (pretty sure about Lion King) though.

opIgra: Inferior to what?

Let's look at Aladdin ... the DOS version had a bit higher resolution vs. the Mega Drive/Genesis version and maybe a bit more colors. Here is the MD/Genesis gameplay:

Anyway, an interesting article:

Lobuno: Nice games, sadly the price is a bit steep for 22-23 years old (console) games...

opIgra: There are the DOS versions ...
Already knew. Still these are console games (ported to PC)

From Wikipedia:

There are several video games based on the 1992 Disney film Aladdin. Along with the film release, three different video games based on Aladdin were released. A coproduction between Virgin Games and Walt Disney Feature Animation for the Genesis was released in late 1993 and later ported to Nintendo Entertainment System, PC, Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

I've played Aladdin and the Lion King. Finished the former and never got past the monkeys in the latter (somehow I was never able to position them right). Aladdin is great however. Hard, but a very well done and an incredibly enjoyable spin-off from the movie. I can only assume, having played the first level and only part of the second level, that Lion King shares Aladdin's difficulty.

Anyway, thanks for bringing these good old games here!

blotunga: More platformers... i would've rather had The Curse of Monkey Island.

igrok: There are less than 15 classic platformers on GOG, and many of them are from Apogee. While I'd love to see one more Monkey Island game here, I think old platformers have been overly neglected and deserved a new release.
I agree.
Too many strategy games (8 pages), too few platformers (3 pages) here.

Lion King brings back so many memories. I remember quickly completing the first stages, and then, once I would reach the Hakuna Matata stage, I would play most of it only to let myself die near the end, so I could play it again. Again and again. It was such a good stage, the music, the layout, it was perfect. Unsurprisingly from Westwood.
This was the Super Mario of the PC for me.
I remember Aladin because when I went to see it in the theater, the four guys with me all dropped acid. I sat there the whole time trying to figure out why they seemed so much more into the movie than I was. :P
Yay! I loved those games (even though they are quite hard) and I am glad that they are here. Have to wait for a sale though because the price imo is a bit too high.

Uh-oh.
I hope DOSBox has save states.

Edit: it doesn't, but DOSBox SVN Daum allows you to save and load. :)

I have some nostalgia for Aladdin and the Lion King in particular. What impressed me the most at that time were the vibrant colours. However, we never completed Aladdin back then because the levels after the Cave of Wonders were just too difficult.

timppu: When you have pressed Esc to get to the "Abort game?", press "Y" on your keyboard for "yes", then it takes you to the main menu (from which you can exit the game completely).

I guess if you want to do that with a game controller, you need to assign the key "Y" to one of your gamepad buttons. Maybe that can be done in DOSBox, ie. push Ctrl-F1 during the game, that should take you to some kind of DOSBox config screen. Or then maybe it can be assigned manually in some DOSBox config file.
There we go, thanks for the help. :)
most-treasured? Lion King is "treasured"? Is that a joke? The game is mediocre at best. It might start out nice but after the first half of levels the quality is rapidly sinking. Bad controls and horrendous level design.

Aladdin is just slightly better and Jungle Book is probably the best of those 3.

I'd rather say that games like Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion or The Lucky Dime Caper are treasured Disney games because they are actually good.

It seems as if you would need a special DosBox MOD but it is possible:

EndlessKnight: Very nice, but too expensive for what they are. I can get physical copies of the Genesis/MD versions for less.
avatar
almabrds: Good luck convincing Disney to lower the price.
No need to. One can simply wait for a sale or get the games on other platforms.
For me the Aladdin game was quite difficult O_o
Also, when I played it ages ago, the game crashed on the last levels -_-
