Embrace your adventurous inner child with The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Jungle Book!

Good stories never fall out of style. And if someone knows how to tell a proper fairytale, that's got to be Disney. Today, three of their most celebrated, charming platformers of yore based on such tales are coming back, exclusively on GOG.com. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are all household names that still captivate our imagination, decades after we got introduced to their cinematic and videogame worlds.

That's why GOG.com and Disney heave teamed up to bring these beloved classics of the 16-bit era to a new generation of gamers and Disney fans. All three titles have been meticulously updated to be compatible with modern operating systems while preserving the original graphics, sound, and gameplay.

Developed during the golden age of platformers, Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book established themselves as hallmarks of the genre, earning the praise of fans and critics alike for over two decades. That was due in no small part to their groundbreaking visuals. With the advent of Digicel technology, hand-drawn cels from Disney's animation team brought the characters to life with a level of vibrancy that was unparalleled at the time, and remains impressive today. Just look at how adorable little Simba looks when he roars at his enemies!

Return to these beautiful worlds, full of that unmistakable Disney charm and wondrous sense of adventure. Disney Aladdin, Disney The Lion King, and Disney The Jungle Book are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com and you can get them for 10% off individually, or for 33% off as a bundle of heartwarming joy until August 8, 12:59 PM UTC!

Never played any of these platformers. But the Lion King game sure wakes up memories of my childhood. Personally too expensive for me for a very old game. On to the sales wishlist it goes.

NuffCatnip: But honestly, where's 'Hercules' ?
It will be in the next round.

snowkatt: lion king pc is fairly smooth though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fv6TscQ1Qc
Lion King's probably the only one here that's ok now that it's out of it's original windows hell state, but still has screen tearing.
This gets Elf's stamp of approvel.

A bit highpriced though.

muntdefems: Now *that* I definitely don't remember (at least for Aladdin, as I never played any version of Jungle Book). Maybe your PC was struggling to run them?

ReynardFox: In doing a quick YouTube, i can't find a single video of Aladdin or Jungle book that don't have choppy scrolling and bad tearing.
Maybe I just didn't care back then, but I don't remember that being an issue when I played these years ago...
A little too rich for my blood at the moment, but both Aladdin and The Lion King were excellent games. I never played Jungle Book, but I'm sure it's good as well. I will certainly keep my eye on these for a future sale. Congrats to GOG for bringing in some really great, retro exclusives!

I'll concede you the music aspects, as I've never been very musically inclined. :P
I haven't performed a side-by-side comparison to console or Amiga versions, but I also felt the PC versions of Lion King and Aladdin were quite good. Snappy scrolling, good graphics, ok gameplay, and the music and sound effects were fully digitized (as opposed to most PC games of the time where you would get poor Adlib FM-synthesis music, and mayb some digitized sound effects).

So I'd say if one enjoyed these games on other platforms, probably the PC versions are fine for the nostalgia needs, the PC versions don't probably have anything to be ashamed of compared to the other versions. This isn't like some of those earlier PC versions of various games with poor CGA/EGA graphics and PC beeper sounds.

I haven't seen Jungle Book to comment on it.

amusingly enough the piss poor lion king disaster on the pc was partially responsible for direct X
dunno if we should be glad with that or not
Kinda cool... but not at that price point. Pass for now.

madammina: Same here. But if I can actually beat some of them, I'll feel a bit better about buying others. Admittedly, part of it is my computer is crap. (At least it has stopped lagging when the only thing I have running is two tabs open in Chrome) but that has held off on me playing a few of them.

Others though, work fine. I just need to the time.

And THEN I can buy new games.
avatar
snowkatt: sadly i always buy new games
cause there is always a cool bundle or cool sale for a cool game
i bought a load of megadrive games on bundle stars

in fact i got spares !
It helps I wasn't a PC gamer during when a lot of these come out, so I have no nostalgia. And my PC CAN'T run the newer games.

As a result, it's mostly a few I've heard about in other ways. (Psychonauts, songs popping up on VG Music lists that lead me to find games, etc) And I don't like Western RPG's. Too depressing. So, that limits it a lot. Or at least enough that I don't mad dash into every sale.

But, well, good reviewed game for 2 bucks? Buy and go into my backlog.

Dang, need to get into Gray Matter too. And System shock (2).

Darn lack of time.

tinyE: I'm flat out not a fan of the genre period. Gonna pass but still a nice release for GOG.

It should silence the "why aren't there any good old games" people here for at least three or four minutes.
Yes, they seem to be good releases for a number of folks, so an old-game win for GOG this time.
Nice games, sadly the price is a bit steep for 22-23 years old (console) games...
avatar
damien: all good games. I have fond memories especially with the Lion King. As far as I remember, PC versions were inferior (pretty sure about Lion King) though.
Inferior to what?

Let's look at Aladdin ... the DOS version had a bit higher resolution vs. the Mega Drive/Genesis version and maybe a bit more colors. Here is the MD/Genesis gameplay:

Anyway, an interesting article:

Wasn't that related to the (poorer?) Windows version of Lion King which didn't work on many PC video cards even on systems where the game came bundled with? That certainly must have been embarrasing, a bit like if The Witcher 3 would have refused to work on those new Nvidia cards that got a free code for the game.

I presume these GOG versions are DOS versions, which didn't have that issue.
