We'd like to inform you that Disney The Lion King and Disney Aladdin are being delisted from our catalog on July 9th, 2PM UTC, due to the publisher's request.

Everyone who owned the games prior to delisting will still be able to access them through their GOG Library.
Awww... aren't there some pretty recent movies for both, so I presume they are the reason?

They wouldn't want stores like GoG to get extra sales due to new movies, would they, huh? HUH? Yeah, thought so.

Well, of course. Keeping these things out of the Vault™ would "devalue" them, of course.

They have both been removed for sale from Steam as well. At least GOG gave us a warning, unlike Steam that just silently removed them.

Both are worth getting if you don't own them already.

Edit: The Jungle Book has also been removed from Steam, so there is a chance that could get delisted here as well.

Well that's a shitty move. Shame I wouldn't get them here then.
Thank you for the announcement chandra! These are ones I don't own, but I might have gotten eventually. I only have nostalgia for Aladdin, so I should maybe get that one...

EDIT: Actually, what am I talking about! I've finished both Aladdin and Lion King. Damn it's a shame they are going away.

I remember reading that Disney was actually happy to have these games re-released on GOG, what's the deal?
That sucks.

I was going to get them at some point...

Lion King is a Westwood game, so maybe EA's lawyers found a loop hole.

I'd assume it relates more on cost/profit ratio. Even if they do money, Disney's cutthroat profiteering may view them such an insifnicant, that they axed them because of it. Disney doesn't do nickel and dime business unless it brings in millions.
10 bucks per game.. might shell this out for Lion King. Should have bought it in one of the sales :/

Because it coming back in a reasonable amount of time is unlikely and if it does, it will probably be in some glorious "remaster" for at least 20 bucks.

EDIT:
You could at least tag announcement threads with the "NEWS" tag. This really makes it seem like you don't want people to notice these threads and I don't get why.

Sure, it is a negative image due to games being removed from the store, but making such announcements a bit more visible would bring in more last-minute purchase money. A trade which would be well worth it I assume.

At this point, I doubt Aladdin&Lion King would make less than any of the other Disney games available. Plus the Lion King movie, is soon to be released. That would surely spike the sales for the game. Even if the spike wouldn't be substantial enough to warrant continued support, it makes no logical sense to remove the game now, and not wait 1 more month.
I enjoyed both back in the day, but I'm not quite sure I would nowadays, they were very difficult and I never got far... they've been in and out of my Wishlist several times in the few years I've been here. It's still sad to see them go, I hope they're just preparing to release special editions or something in the near future.
Oh no! In my childhood I have spent many hours playing these games. So sorry to hear that they will be gone. It also sucks that I don't have enough money to buy them before they're gone. Oh, well. Back to trading then. I have written a trade post in the general trading thread if anyone is interested.
This sucks. Now I regrett not getting Aladdin when it was discounted at least a little bit. But I won't buy it full price - much as I loved that game as a kid (and I really did) I no longer really have the patience for those kind of punishing platformers. Still, I hope we'll get them back eventually. It's a nasty loss for GOG's catalog of classics.
