Here's some instructions on how to get the DirectDraw game Killing Time working with DXGL. Note that these instructions were tested with the DEBUG build of DXGL, meaning you have to compile the source code (provided on the DXGL website) yourself and insure you're compiling the DEBUG version. I also don't know if the game works with the official installer provided on the DXGL website, which is a pre-compiled version of the latest DXGL installer.

--Killing Time--

1. Open the DXGL configuration utility (dxglcfg.exe, or "Configure DXGL" from the shortcut provided by the installer).
2. Click on the "Add..." button. You may need to accept Windows' request to authorize DXGL's administrative action.
3. Navigate to the folder which contains the Killing Time executable (KillTime.exe).
4. Select the Killing Time executable and click the "Open" button.
5. Exit the configuration utility.
6. Launch the game!

NOTE: The opening (and possibly closing) cinematics may appear garbled, display in a bizarre color palette, or display no video. This does not affect either in-game cinematics or gameplay.
I'll add this to the list, I'll also start testing this with all the other games. I'll get back when I've worked out a few.
Added a few more games.

I'm also going to add IPXWrapper fixes, and I've found information about a DirectPlay wrapper that might help get make older networked games run better.
I've had a lot of luck with the program "DirectDraw Color Fix" when I've encountered this problem. It's hosted on an AOE site, but the program has worked for everything I've thrown at it so far and it's very easy to use. You can find it here: http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=11108
Yeah, I used to use the registry flags fix for WIndows, but I found it a lot less reliable then DLLWrappers. Thanks for the link, though.
I used ddwrapper and got "MageSlayer" and "Hasbro's The Game of Life" running with aqrit.cfg having only the "ColorFix = 1" line.

Much simpler than doing the registry hack.

Thanks for pointing this out. I might try to do some other games, but those are the only two I had on hand.

Thanks, I'll add them to the list soon.

I also added a few more games... also god damn this auto-formatting is annoying, I have to save this to a note pad instead of editing on gog, because it keeps auto formatting it and screwing my post up.

Rhiyo: this auto-formatting is annoying,
It's definitely the worst forum bug we've had for awhile. I hope they get it fixed soon.

Rhiyo:
The bug is fixed, but mangled posts need to be fixed manually.
Added Stronghold to the list.

Rhiyo: Sorry, I assumed because C&C and RA were released in future updates without a CD they'd be legal, and because AoE 2 was just editing the registry and not implementing any files it'd be fine and I though Diablo would be abandonware by now.

I should have probably looked this up before posting, my apologies, and thanks for the warning!

JudasIscariot: AFAIK, Diablo is most definitely NOT abandonware. It's old, yes, but the rights holder is still around and it's still being sold last time I checked :D
Diablo 1 is no longer sold by Blizzard, it was removed from the battlechest and can't be bought separately. I don't think that's changed since I looked a few months ago. I keep thinking we will see a mobile version, but by all public appearances, they have abandoned it.

A shame if you ask me, it could do for some updates to run better on modern hardware. It looks crappy on modern systems and has a fixed max resolution, 640x480 iirc. I actually tried to make it run at higher resolutions by interposing DirectDraw calls and changing a few hard coded buffer sizes (and a few other small things), but the way it was written (poorly) doesn't lend itself to trivial modification. I was able to run it at high resolutions, but the game window was tiny and attempts to adjust it failed miserably. Anyway that was my one attempt at game modding and I ran out of time, so it still sits in its ugly state :( i would love to get it working someday, but I concluded it would take a lot of time and intricate knowledge of the code that would take weeks to figure out.

I am keeping my fingers crossed they'll revive it for iOS, but I'm not expecting it to happen.
Great work! Thanks for doing this.

When you get a chance, could you fix the missing info for TZAR Burden of the Crown? You say to open up the Tzar.ini file, but you omitted what to set inside the file!
I got Warlords 3: Darklord Rising working for me with ddwrapper.
At first it didn't work, but I needed to set a couple compatibility mode options.
- Check "Run in 256 colors"
- Check "Disable desktop composition"

BOTH must be checked in order to work with ddwrapper.

See this post for details.

Doesn't work here, the game (v1.1) crashes after the intro movies and shows a generic "has stopped working" message. After some tweaking the game does run fine in software mode.

System:

Windows 7 x64
560ti
6gb ram
i7

You mean for MageSlayer?

I guess I have 1.0 since the EXE is dated Sept 26, 1997 and the patch seems to have come out in November of that year. In the EXE file properties, my file version is 1.0.0.1 and my product version says 1.0. I'll have to patch up and try it again.

For 1.0 at least, I have to use 640x480x8 video mode for it to work, but I get the wrong colors without the ddwrapper ddraw fix. The other 16-bit video modes cause it to crash for me. My copy of the game defaults to 640x480x8 and I don't have to do any additional tweaking.
