misteryo: I am playing whatever just downloaded from Battle.net - I ran it and it started! Hurray!

QUESTIONS:

DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE EXPANSION NOW? DOES IT CHANGE THE BASE GAME? OR DO I JUST DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE EXPANSION AFTER I'M DONE WITH VANILLA?
The LoD expansion enhances the base game, increases the size of the inventory and has some other improvements which I don't recall off the top of my head as well. I do remember that all of the improvements were sorely needed and greatly increased the enjoyment of the game though, especially the expanded inventory size (which is still too small).

THANKYOU!
Lucky you.

It holds up extremely well in 2016 I thought, what with all the retro 2d pixel looks goin on.

Oh and yes, make sure you play with the expansion. I think it adds the last world/level and adds two more classes to pick from if I remember right.

What's this? Someone's excited for an overrated game? Your gamer card will now be permanently revoked until further notice.

....until the release of Freddi Fish 2, amirite?
Divine Divinity is soooo much better.

I initiated a game of that before but never got past the initial "game try out" phase. It did seem old-school but I didn't play it long enough to form any particular opinion of it yet. I've got that series and the Sacred series, as well as the Spellforce series on my someday-I'll-getaroundtuit list. :)

DD is like a blend of Diablo and Oblivion. It is so fucking good if you like a more in depth experience and fleshed out world. If you just like combat, then Diablo 2 is king.

Naw, I'm into almost all types of RPGs. The only ones I'm not huge on are JRPGs, platformers and roguealikes, or anything pixelated to death, etc. I'll probably like the Divinity series when I get around to it. :)

Why are you referencing snowkatt as if she were some expert in game quality?
Your gamer card is fake without D1 :P

rtcvb32: Not much planning involved... All the lower skills do minimum skills and put a lot into the upper/final skills which are far more boosted/effective.

phaolo: Usually people wasted points in bad skills and ended up weak or even screwed up for next difficulty.
He can go to Akara and reset all skill points in a dialogue option, so making mistakes is not the end of the world.
I remember doing this some times in the single player mode.

Oh, I didn't have that option when I played D2.
I imagine it will cost a lot, though.

It was added in one of the more recent major patches, so depending on when you played you might not have been able to do it.

You get one reset as a quest reward for each time you complete the Den of Evil quest, so you get a total of 3 freebies (one per difficulty). You can leave the reward unclaimed indefinitely (similar to Charsi's imbue quest reward, Larzuk's socket reward, and Anya's personalization reward); it shows up as another dialogue option in Akara's chat menu. Using a reset will remove all spent skill points and reset your stats back to the baseline while giving you the stat points and skill points appropriate for your level. It allows a lot of freedom to just put points where ever you want/need them for the early levels without screwing your high level build; go ahead and add points to ice blast and nova if those skills are working for you.

After the three freebies, you'll have to work for more resets. Each of the Act bosses in Hell has a chance of dropping an essence; Andarial and Duriel will drop the Essence of Pain, Mephisto may drop an Essence of Hatred, Diablo drops Terror, and Baal drops Destruction. Cube one of each of the 4 essence's together and you get a Token of Absolution. Use the token to reset your stats and skills again.

Nice, that was a thing that I never liked about D2 in the past.
But wait.. so, if you screw up your build the fourth time and you become weak, you have to farm all 4 hell bosses to fix it? Absurd O_o

I suppose. Hopefully by the time you've beaten Nightmare you have SOME idea of how to build a character that isn't terrible; you'll have had at least some taste of what Hell has in store for you by the time you get that last free reset. Also, hopefully you haven't been completely squandering your resets.

Having three rebuilds beats having every choice be permanent, and this seems like a decent compromise so people aren't just rebuilding for each specific boss or area. Overall, I'm not complaining.
