Soccorro: That stupid idiot with his stupid frost aura!!!

awalterj: Although you do have a point about paladins being an easy class, I must point out how hilariously ironic it is when one kills Duriel with a Frostadin (Holy Frost paladin). I was surprised how relatively simple it was to kill Duriel with that build because Holy Frost works on Duriel and slows him down, so if he's an ass and slows you down just slow him down too and then everyone is slow but if you have an item that gives you "Halbierte Dauer der Erstarrung" (half freeze duration) then you have a clear advantage over Duriel. In my opinion, half freeze duration is almost a must for going melee against Duriel.
I wasted my Charsi imbue on a pair of gloves in normal mode that served me well until the end of nightmare mode because they me half freeze and some other nice benefits, later I realized I should have waited and imbued an item from hell mode at a higher level but it's not the end of the world.

Crewdroog: hey, I like inventory tetris! it's the best mini game evah. lol

awalterj: If you like such "shoving stuff around" puzzles, you would love CLARC, it's available here and an excellent game, trust me!

D-ROCK: In regards to your 3rd paragraph I own all those games you mentioned. Nox, and Darkstone, Torchlight here on GOG as well as Steam. Titan Quest on Steam. I still really have not delved deep into those because of my tremendous backlog. I figured since I love the ARPG genre and heard so many good things about the Diablo frnachise, that I decided to buy a Diablo game and see what all the rage is. It is the Godfather of ARPG.
Diablo is a great place to start, probably the best place. I didn't want to scare you away from the other games, in fact NOX is refreshingly different from Diablo so it won't let you down by comparison. I'm a bit partial to NOX so don't take my word on it but the game has a very dedicated cult following so it's not just me toting one of my personal favorites.

Darkstone hasn't aged too well but I still enjoyed it moderately, just not enough to play it more than once. Diablo 2 on the other hand I played many many times with all the characters. It starts to become repetitive after a couple playthroughs especially if you take the same character through multiple difficulty levels. Best to take a break from the game then, that's what I'm doing. No more Diablo for a while.

I even tried Torchlight as a sort of alternative anti-withdrawal symptoms drug but I strongly disliked the game, it just has no soul, so bland. Give it a try by all means but don't expect it to be anywhere as engaging as Diablo. I was let down by Titan Quest as well, it's an excellent game and one of the best in the genre so I recommend you try that one next (assuming you haven't already started to play) but aside from the gorgeous graphics which aged well, it felt rather lackluster. I only played one character and completed one difficulty and quit the game after that where as in Diablo I hit new game immediately whenever I finish the game. It's odd but I'm sure many people would say the same.

Remember D-ROCK, The Arcane Sanctuary is supposed to look like that!

First time I ever got there I seriously thought I'd been sold a bogus copy of the game.

Potzato: Most importazant thing : don't play D2 without Lord of destruction (be it only for resolution purpose)
avatar
tinyE: The new weapons help. The Amazon bows and Necro trinkets are a must.
More importantly, no range weapon/spell is very useful in 640x480 ;-p

Have you ever encountered Diablo on the surface!? That's crazy! He drops a unique charm!

How do you manage that?

It happens in Battle.net. YouÄll get a message that *random number* Stones of Jordan were sold... Then if you're lucky, he spawns on your server...Be sure to be in the huntress encampment...then the world starts shaking and if he does spawn on your server there will be another message, telling you that Diablo is walking the earth. He will then replace the fallen-boss rakanishu at the portal to tristram.

Soccorro: Play as a Necromancer! Or at least Druid!
avatar
Crewdroog: no druids suck. him and the paladin are just blarg.
avatar
D-ROCK: Thank you!
avatar
Crewdroog: :)
i'd take my post as a warning more than anything hahahahaha
I managed to beat this game as a Hammerdin Paladin.
avatar
Elmofongo: If you have the CD Key you can also go to the Battle.net website to redeem a DRM Free Digital Copy So you have a CD and a Digital Back Up.
avatar
D-ROCK: Oh I didn't know that! Thanks!
One thing I did notice at the main menu for the game there was no options button to adjust settings for the game? I assume you can do that once you have chosen your character class and started the game. Meaning once your in game press ESC to pause the game and adjust the options from there?
Also did yor battle chest came with a Diablo 1 CD?

No I got the Diablo 2 Battlechest version. It came with Diablo 2(Base Game 3 CDs), Lord of Destruction Expansion CD, Game manuals for both games, and the BradyGames Strategy Guide for the base game, and expansion.

The Completionist did a review of D2 not too long ago, going on about a good number of Battle.net specific encounters involving that... Watch if you want

Be sure to register your s/n's on battle.net so you have the digital download version, too.

tinyE: You're screwed. :P

I bought that game the day it came out and I'm still as viciously addicted to it now as I was then. Turn back now before it gets it's hooks into you!
Ugly even at the time. Most things were just recolours, which left us with a load of rainbow coloured shit that ruined the grimdark aesthetic honed to perfection by the first game. Not all that brilliantly balanced by Blizzard standards - especially when replaying it with an existing character. When you break it down Diablo 2 was just about above average overall.

Utterly, utterly addictive as fuck. Never understood it, yet there it is.
