FallenHeroX1: Mods in here be like "We only allow chinese "gamers" to bombard us with feedback on our decisions to release this game or not and those are the only "people" we have any interest in listening to, If everyone else could shut up about it and only talk about the game going forward, that would be great!"

Hypocrites.
Safe to say, recenly GOG likes to invent things that gamers allegedly wish for, like the recent EGS addition to Galaxy ("Since its launch, the most requested new feature has been the option to buy games not only from GOG.COM ..."), for instance. I am not sure whether it is part of GOG's strategy to make wild claims or whether it is an effect of some gas pipe in the basement of their office building leaking some not so healthy gases...

So? It's very easy for GOG to ignore. I am afraid no matter how high the number, it won't affect GOG's decision making nor motivate a backpedaling. Balance sheets and quarterly revenue is where GOG's eyes at, not some wishlist item for a comparatively revenue-wise small game. If you want to affect change from a company, you will have to speak the language they understand: money.

Was told my expectations of 1,500 were a bit on the low side and I should of figured for at least 3,000. I see the error of my ways, but hell, the sky is the limit and it should pick up as many votes as it can get.

If nothing else I hope that Red Candle can get Devotion published somewhere else (perhaps Playism) and pick up much needed sales from this. They really did get royally screwed in this deal. Also what is very sad that they still have their own relaunch trailer up on youtube for the 18th...

Enebias: a stupid joke about China's current ruler isn't a big deal, and if God Emperor Xi can't take any kind of humor he should visit a psychiatrist for self esteem issues.
Agreed. It's the with Mohammed jokes that lead to the deaths of a magazine staff in Paris (Charlie Hebdo shooting). If your divine figure can't take a joke, it's a pretty brittle one...

On the other hand that is our Western perspective... and also a recent one. People who made fun of Hitler were threatened with death not only in Germany, but in the whole Western world between 1934 and 1938. Many people saw him as a visionary, messiah even, before WW2. People are like that in times of trouble, and China has went through a lot of that. Or think of the "Communist craze" in 'Murica under Carter.

To defeat an enemy, you have first to understand them, and also understand yourself. And it's, by irony of fate, a Chinese who wrote that, Sun Tzu. The Chinese apply that, we don't, they win.

I just hope they didn't count much on sales of Devotion when budgeting for the game they're developing now. Also I think they would put it on Playism if they could by now - Detention is there after all.
I'm not against it, I'm just wondering how long this boycotting will last. Few days? Maybe until next year, or will gog lose some customers forever?
And what alternatives are out there?
I think none. Then boycott means you stop spending more on pc gaming.

EnforcerSunWoo: Things have been bad around here for quite sometime, but are only going to get worse here on out. Your quote is just another bad string of hypocritical bullshit that you wonder if they ever believed to begin with or if it was just another sales gimmick to "get asses in seats" (sell product).
I'm fully willing to accept the notion that their original intentions were good, and they may well still be. Guys who start new companies and make it big bust their asses for like 20 years, if all they cared about was a paycheck they'd just bullshit thier way into upper middle management at a blue chip corp cause it's so much easier. The EA guys wanted to elevate game development to a cultural thing, the Ubisoft guys wanted to bring farmers out of the phonograph era. They weren't going in bad faith, and CDP has done more than enough good things over the years for me to extend them the benefit of the doubt.

But complacency is really dangerous because it leads to shit like this. And I don't want to minimize the gravity of the decision they had to make, either, because being caught between a regime that has no qualms laying waste to anything that gets in its way and the rest of the world is a shitty place to be in. This is why the response irritates me more than the original decision, because it's such stereotypical "my bubble chart does my thinking for me" manager speak. Not straight talk, which I can respect even if it's a decision that I might disagree with.

Personally, I have such huge backlog that I can go on without buying games for years.
