Shiznown: China needs to be called out for their actions and public opinion against China is definitely a good thing. You're the type of person to give up your freedom for products. In short, you're a bootlicker. China still is communist. Every company there is a slave to the CCP. Just because they have elements of capitalism does not make them a true capitalistic country. The only reason they even have capitalism is because they are evil, not stupid. They know if they didn't have some form of capitalism, there whole system would eventually collapse like the Sovient Union. Part of the reason North Korea is poor is because they do not have capitalist system liek China does. However, as I stated China is a hybrid of communism and capitalism.
avatar
Suminia: China isn't "hybrid communist" you fucking retard; its capitalist. They literally decollectivized in the 1970s. They're a capitalist country that 'sconstantly opening their market. They have the highest per capita billionaires. Please, just stop pretending you know anything China when you're just a retard who gets your geo-political takes from twitter. Freedom to me is doing what I want with my life, that means buying products that I want. GOG sells products I want, and the China situation is fine by me too because I still buy products from China, and I can still buy the products I want from GOG. If you're going to cry about it - you can easily get the game somewhere else.

You're just a dumb kid; you're probably not even above the age of 18. You have no idea how the world works. There is no nation, on this planet, that does not do "dirty deeds" or "crimes against the people." Stop having head up your own ass - learn how business actually works.
Hah, true capitalist but they need permission from the government to do anything. Fuck off. You're cancer just like the CCP is. Chiang Kai Shek was a hero. I just wish he went further. Then not only would we not have the CCP, we wouldn't have CCP bootlickers like yourself.

Suminia: Instead of being manchildren; live in reality and understand how business works.
avatar
Nible1: Sorry about that, can you help me understand how business works?
Here's how I thought business works.

As a customer, I try to find the balance between quality and price.
No problem buying products from one country or the other, whether it's China or not. If they make products that fit my bill, they deserve my money.

Don't care about a foreign government and their politics, that's their business, not my place to judge.

However, I do not purchase from companies that believe that my business (my selling and purchasing of a product) should be affected by a foreign nation's politics. In other words, if a company believes that I should not get access to a product due to a foreign nation's political beliefs, I no longer care about the price/quality equation.

Is that not fair?
Why is your money, in particular, so special? You really think *your money* dictates the aggregate demand? Do you really think *your money*, *your consumption* isn't replaceable? Like everyone in this world, you are a statistic. You are replaceable. If you don't want to give GOG your money, fine, they'll fine someone else do business with. A business transaction isn't a morally, binding agreement - its a mutual agreement with temporal conditions.

I'll do what I want. The nationalists lost, and that's the reality of the situation you manchild. China is a member of the United Nations, The World Bank, The IMF, The World Trade Organization - and you, an idiot, think the censorship of a single game is more pressing than the economic influence of China on the international market. You are a fucking moron, and I'm glad you do not have any influence in these types of decisions. Business managers are much smarter, and more intelligent than you make these deals with China daily. You are completely insignificant.
Also, imagine how fucking stupid Americans are ; you do realize it was the United States who opened up China? Do you really think they cared about the morality of the communists? Seriously, how fucking stupid are you people.

Well I sure hope China is willing to pick up the slack because it would appear that GOG is about to go through the mother of all boycotts everywhere else, if all the negative comments from simple internet rando to triple-a devs like David Jaffe are to be believed. This is on top of the fact that devs are pulling their games off the store as well. I would counter-argue that you would have to be completely foolish to just ignore all this, which is what GOG appears to be doing. But hey, you are correct on one thing: I can just go somewhere else for my games, which I plan to do until something is done about this. Preferably in the form of putting the game back up and issuing an apology for both cowering out and not fully researching things before making promises.

I absolutely agree with you. GOG is under no obligations period, especially not under any I impose.

Just don't understand why you're angry that I just personally choose not to do any more business with them just because this sort of business decision personally disgusts me, even if it is a completely fair decision.
Why do you think it's wrong to stop doing business with a company when they do something that annoys me?

Actually, I guess you're annoyed because I was grandstanding, which makes sense since my post was a bit self-important. Sorry about that.

I didn't open up China personally, and yeah, I don't care about the morality of communists. Doesn't mean I don't care about other nations' politics influencing my life.
I think all most of us are asking is that China's problems with Taiwan remain China's problems with Taiwan specifically, instead of China's problems with Taiwan becoming our problems with Taiwan.

Look, I just don't get why I can't buy games from a Taiwanese company just because China is annoyed!!

So the plan of western corporations of making a totalitarian tech producing vassal state failed, now we should follow the mandate of a totalitarian oppressive regime. You realize, just because western media did stop reporting on the atrocities happening in China , it is still happening there? Probably the reason, why work is so cheap there.

China is NOT CAPITALIST it is MONOPOLY CAPITALIST and there you have the marriage of the unspoken evil and communism.

Aye, it seems transnational corporations got a sniff of monopoly capitalism - that is the shit show western countries are in at the moment...

Please tell me i'm not the only one who noticed this mask slip of a false flag. I would counter-argue alot of your points, but you're not making a case in good faith.

Those who think china's capitalist have no clue how china funds companies and also makes ridiculous mandates for them. There's a reason TikTok is a debate in the US right now: they got caught spying on other apps on peoples' phones due to an iOS update which notified users any time an app tried accessing the clipboard. In theory, they're straight up stealing passwords and such.

As for the west, "monopoly capitalism" isn't quite it. You see, a pseudo-monopoly can be established via corporations, which are inherently non-capitalist. At the end of the day, capitalism requires that consumers incentivize directly with their wallet, not stock brokers, a board, and what all through some arbitrary beurocratic institution that is protected by fiduciary duty laws. This is no longer capitalism.

Not sure what you mean, but we should stop, for the sake of the game. If some people fall into the trap of Suminia. The whole thread will be locked. Yeah, that is the state open discussion is in.

David Jaffe hasn't made a good game in years and is SJW. What proof do you have devs are pulling their games off GOG or you just making it up? I'm still a little lost how steam works with china, but get's no backlash like GOG is getting.

Steam didn't blunder so bad as to implicitly admit they censor based on chinese demands. Steam also didn't recently produce a trainwreck that people are sore about. Both events are tied together, and fundamentally have the same origins: the love of money. This love of money naturally creates some political tension, and both poles have a bone to pick, not only over both issues CDP's facing now, but also with issues in the past. The irony is that the usual fighting between forum users isn't happening. Instead we have some really, really obvious bad faith outliers. Turns out, the poles are actually agreeing on this without realizing it.

And he's arguing in bad faith... He says "you americans" trying to sound like he's from anywhere but america, but what is his stated location? Something's off about this guy, and this looks like high quality bait that we all took. The problem is, if someone like that has some points, it's hard to separate them from the junk when it's an obvious troll attempt. It's to get us off what we're talking about.

Pretty sure this was being sarcastic and making fun of GOG.

No, I'm pretty sure GOG lost at least two games from their marketplace because of this.

Except he'd be the first trump supporter i've seen to do so. While it's possible, it's also unlikely, especially with Trump being a hardcore america campaign. It's hard to be nationalist then turn around and deny your national identity like that.
