UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

amok: did you ever consider what the consequences would be if people listens to you?
avatar
KiNgBrAdLeY7: But they actually DON'T. So, if i may ask once more, what is all the fuss about? Since no one listens to me and all...?
Because if there is no fuss, someone may actually think this is OK. You need to be told how stupid this idea is in the first place , so it do not spread and others actually think it is fine. And maybe, just maybe, you can learn a little from it also.

Conceited double standard egotistical bums calling perfectly operational ideas "stupid", then self hallucinating of being teachers and demanding from people who ate life with a spoon "to learn from something also". How cute! If this wasn't funny, i would certainly be confused!
The incoherence. It is strong in this one...

Hi!

please, push this offer again!! please, please!! :)
There is nothing I hate more than a publisher or (digital) retailer denying me the right to choose what I want to buy.

I don't want to be forced to buy a version of a game I don't want, unless there is a very good reason as to why the version I want just is not available anymore.

I understand that the version I want comes free with the version that I am forced to buy that I don't want, but I don't appreciate this underhanded way of forcing a product on me through what is essentially blackmailing.

Why was this done? Did anyone ask for this? What's the point of removing the original game and hiding it in the new version? Previously, people who wanted the new version bought it, and people who wanted the old bought that one. Considering more people purchased the original version, don't you think there MIGHT POSSIBLY be a reason why people wouldn't want to buy the new version? "Nawwwww, no way".

I was ready to sacrifice my right to actually own the product I am purchasing just to at least get the product I want (I thought Steam had the original version still available) but no, that's just not possible anymore since every digital store also took this version off the shelves.

Seriously, thanks GoG for keeping the original version available in any way, otherwise this would have been a complete disaster. Really, really, really appreciate it! Thanks for trying to preserve it. :)

TL;DR: Why do consumers have to beg and battle to buy what they want to buy?! This is ridiculous! And then people wonder why piracy is a thing - which is what I would have to resort to, by the way, if this game didn't have a physical release. As cool as GoG was for keeping the original version in the game, I ONLY want that version, so buying the physical release is all I can do at this point.

They say consumers are too entitled nowadays, but what the fuck is up with producers and retailers and such telling us to "Live with it" when we are the ones keeping them alive? You won't get a penny from me now, and you won't get any from me in the future Beamdog/ Hasbro/ (whoever is at fault here).

GR00T: 1) NO ONE has been 'wronged'. They can still get the game if they want. And guess what: no one has the right to the games at a specific price or without having to grab it via a bundle, so no wrong has been committed.
They have been, considering they were given a choice before, and that choice has been taken away from them. Regardless of what we are talking about, being denied the ability to choose is a wrong. It's not a RIGHT to have a choice, but it is a wrong to take away choice for no good reason.

avatar
GR00T: 2) No one needs the game(s). Games are not a need, they're a want. Huge difference. And, as a want, they're not necessary, not an inherent right, and must be bought on the terms offered by the seller/rights holder.
Yes, Baldur's Gate is not bread or water, and yes, we as consumers are forced to adhere to whatever terms the seller/rights holder sets for us. However, we can complain, and we can point out bullshit when we see it. We had a choice before, that choice isn't there anymore, and we've gotten no reasons whatsoever as to why that is. The license hasn't changed, the old version isn't unplayable, etc. etc. Nothing. Why was this done? To jack up the price and stop people from buying the original version and to stop them from complaining about the new.

avatar
GR00T: 3) Fleeced: the game bundles cost $19.99 (the price I see in CDN currency). If the originals are such highly esteemed and desired classics as you say they are, are they not worth the price? If not, then maybe they're not so great? And if they aren't then why all the fuss? As well, if you don't like the price... wait for a sale.
That's just a weird argument. The game was half the price before, now it's double the price. The worth of this same game was HALF of the worth of the same game today. You are defending that by saying double the price is the actual worth of the product? So when it was worth half as much, the price was actually too low for you? I am having trouble understanding your point here.

avatar
GR00T: 4) Filler garbage: this is completely subjective, but if you don't want the extra stuff attached to the classics, guess what? Don't download them. Ignore them. Since it's a digital good, that take no space whatsoever in your home, they can be easily and totally ignored. Don't even want it on your game shelf? Then hide them, or have GOG remove them.
Yes, it is subjective, and yes you can ignore the new version of the game. Fact is though, you were forced to buy something you didn't want, and for no good reason. Again, ignoring the political controversy, why am I forced to pay twice the price for something I don't want for something I want? Why do you argue against someone who wants the choice he/she had two weeks ago!?

avatar
GR00T: 5) Still determined you don't want the bundle but still want the originals? As noted, there are several legal means of obtaining them elsewhere.
He/she can get the physical version of the game, and that's about all the means he has. We literally have to go backwards in time to get the game we want that was available on this webpage two weeks ago. Ridiculous. How does that not annoy you?

You're confusing worth and price, the former is personal while the latter is either on a price tag, or agreed upon between the seller and buyer.

Personally, I was annoyed that the price was only $10 when it was release at I felt it was worth at least twice that (and I would gladly have paid that, had I had the option, but since GOG doesn't work like Humble, I bought all of the Infinity Engine games as soon as possible when their respective 10%-off launch promos had ended because a promo is even more insulting to such masterpieces than an already-low price). With the combining of the classic and EE to one package though, the acceptable price as far as I'm concerned dropped to about $3 (due to which edition is advertised and set as the primary game - had the classics been the games and the EE's been the extras, I'd complain less because I feel ratio of attention between them would be more correct).

But that's me.

EDIT: Yeah, the thread is old. This time I actually knew that when typing. Apologies for keeping it near the top, I'm a bit touchy about he subject.

Forced? That's a strange word choice. How exactly is Beamdog forcing anyone to purchase the Enhanced Editions? No other legal source of the original Infinity Engine games independent of the Enhanced Editions? Are you and/or anyone else who has complained that the original Infinity Engine games are no longer available for purchase legally independent from the Enhanced Editions 100% absolutely certain of this assumption? Are those complaining about this situation so focused on berating Beamdog and those who dare to post anything that's not outright overly negative of Beamdog so focused on their self-imposed crusade that they cannot even be bothered to do a simple websearch?

If one really hates Beamdog so much that one only want to purchase the original versions independent of the Enhanced Editions one still can.

You weren't given choice before. Yo0u had to buy the old game. The new one wasn't available. Once the new one became available, Hasbro and GOG decided to keep the original as part of the package rather than remove it altogether. While it's not the best situation, there is still the opportunity to get exactly what you want. Less optimal at the higher price, but it IS still available unlike so many other titles that have just completely vanished from the marketplace entirely. Given my druthers, I'd rather have the original game still available in this form than not at all.

They were available separately for a while. Consider GOG's opening post:

GOG.com: On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. (underlining mine) This should tell you that the Enhanced Editions had already been on the store for a while (as it says they would be expanded to include the originals - which had until then been available for purchase on their own). And, indeed, MaGOG tells me that Baldur's Gate EE and Baldur's Gate II EE were added to GOG on October 16, 2014, while Icewind Dale EE was added on October 30, 2014, both dates being quite a while before the April 29, 2016 bundling date.

Fair enough. I had forgotten that. I rescind my statement.
