UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

011284mm: Sorry this thread is TL:DR for me right now.

Do we get upgraded to the EE's if we just own the originals?
No. You have to purchase the EE's to get them; that's why there's the 85% off promotion that is about to end.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Now, someone, please gimme back Baldur's Gate without it being "fixed"! PLEASE SOMEONE!!!
Don't you already have the originals? I'm sure in some of your previous posts on this subject, you mentioned that you already own the originals. If so, there's nothing to give back, you've already got it.

tinyE: Can we have an option to permanently ban anyone from the forum who uses the term "SJW"? :P
How do people even pronounce this one? "Sjawah"? That's how the in-my-head reading voice says it, anyway.

trusteft: I just find it funny how the promoters of "freedom" are the first to ask for bans.
avatar
dtgreene: Your freedom ends when it infringes on mine, in general.

For example, you are not free to assault others, because doing so deprives people of their freedoms.

(I should also note that the particular three letter abbreviation is a strong signal that the person using it is a bigot.)
So you ask for my ban because I used an abbreviation which to you gives a strong signal that I am a bigot....If you don't see the irony in this then I wouldn't be surprised.
Also I would LOVE for you to give me a quote of mine where I deprived you or anyone else of their rights. LOVE.

Given that a lot of people suggest that the best experience (and better than the EE editions) is to get the Classic versions and mod them, this "let's force them to buy the EE editions if they want the Classic games" seem like a bit of a scumbag move from Beamdog. Glad I already own the Classic ones.

I have the EE editions (got them on sale) but they're just gathering virtual dust; the extra content never inspired me to play them over the unmodded versions.

Interesting perspective. Seen the odd comment about the new one not being much chop either...

Underhanded move by Beamdog and GOG.com. Forcing people to buy Enhanced Editions in order to access Classic versions of these games. Very disappointing.

This is definitely more on the line of a shady move than anything.

The originals have garnered a lot of love and respect since their initial release, whereas the response to the Enhanced Editions have been mixed at best for a variety of reasons since their own releases. Additionally, the less-than-stellar response to what amounts to their fan fiction of an expansion more recently is probably another part of the reason for this merger.

Why? Well, when the classic versions sell more reliably and are generally looked upon more favorably, merging them with their Enhanced Editions means that players who buy, play, and rate these bundles not for the Enhanced Editions but for the originals will be seen as buying, playing, and rating the Enhanced Editions when they're only in it for the originals.

So when the developers of the Enhanced Editions say that their games sell well and are favorably looked upon, they could be arguably accurate, no matter how much of a percentage of their consumers lean towards the original classics in the bundles.

I own both sets as it is, having bought the Enhanced Editions before I realized what I was getting into, and I definitely have buyer's remorse over it, but this just means I won't be buying any further products of theirs to support this nonsense.

Yah, definitely "cis".

A disgustingly shady move.

Every single review I read for the EE said "meh, Buy the original."
