There were tons of great sites on the internets back in the days.
When I first connected 1998 I used to visit Shockwave.com and download flash movies onto their Shockmachine for later use, since we currently only had 56k dial-up modem. I used to browse several other sites too, most were done in flash.
There was one site though, I think it was called eTV or something. It was all done in flash and had some seriously awesome background music to it. They also had a section, called "The Lab Says".
Sadly, that section was already then under construction. And while we waited, there was a lab, a dog, who barked at the screen. A ball would spawn in front of him and we could pick it up and either give him the ball or toss it around the blue room he sat in. Even here there was awesome music playing. As I said, that section was under construction and never managed to see the light of the day before the site was killed off. Wish I knew its correct name so I could search for it on Youtube.

What sites do you remember the most, and what sites would you like to see online again?
WBS. The Webchat Broadcasting Service ate a large part of my teenage years.

In the 90's there was a website called bloodpatches.de I think. It was essential to the German gamer who didn't tolerate censorship. It was taken down rather soon, though. Later there was a neat community called dede1 - it revolved around uncut patches and language patches, there were also some mods that added or increased gore, nudity etc.. That one is sadly also dead by now, although it survived for a comparably long time. Some of the mods/patches were pretty awesome. I remember getting a patch for The Punisher there that restored some of the content cut from the final game (most notably some additional kill animations).

Pawn.it, I used to go there to unwind while clicking "random" to get the next nonsensical gif up.
Never really understood why Germany is so censored. Is it because of some mustached man from the 40's?

Probably more to do with the non-mustached man from the 90's (you know the one).

I'm afraid I don't know to be honest.

I recall that patch. It removed the gray filter from the interrogation kills, but those kills still gave negative score.
Damn it, need to find that game again. Disney for Marvel's property and THQ if I recall correctly?
"The Centre for the Easily Amused" (amused.com)

Basically just a massive hub that hosted and linked to funny games, animations, music, stories, puzzles, activities, and any random BS you could think of at the time.
It is where I discovered the Continental Drift Cam, the Magic 8 Nipple, Crash Test Dumbass, and Something Fishy. I had a lovely wedding ceremony with awesome MIDI music, raised several pets, beat up the Backstreet Boys, and operated on Boris Yeltsin.

That was the golden age of the internet...

AgentBirdnest: Crash Test Dumbass
I remember that! I always tossed one of those dolls into an elephant's a-hole from the crash chair. :P

You know, I might have jumped the gun on that one. I meant Kohl, but I'm not so sure anymore.
The site that the plaintiff in the case of Leonard v. Pepsico used to raise the money to buy enough Pepsi points to try to win a Harrier jet. When we covered that case in school, our professor mentioned how he had a web site that he used to raise the money, but it has sadly been lost. From all accounts, it was good for a bit of a giggle, especially after realizing he was serious.
Why Was I Banned

A collection of posts from the Xbox Support forum, where people protested their innocence of various crimes on XBL, and the staff occasionally mocked them. It's amazing how many of the racist, homophobic, illiterate hackers on XBL are apparently highly trained lawyers or the favourite children of influential politicians.
I have fond memories of a Pools of Radience : Ruins of MD from back in the day, great buncha people there.
Two come to mind. The Park and Planet Elder Scrolls (i think).

Hmmm... I guess Geocities to a small degree...
