It is "find the scum" if you side with rebels.

The scum are the 2 cultists whom Cult leader Lift recruits.

Rebels are cop-masons whom you have to protect from execution (and hopefully get Lift to recruit).

But the way I see it the game doesn't really begin properly until the government is chosen, so let's see some hustle and we can begin playing the game proper (sure, with as many as three players dead... but them's the draws)

After government is chosen you find out if you're Mafia (informed minority who know everyone's faction i.e. Loyalists) or Town (majority who don't know tho the Mafia-Loyalists are).

No. There will be 0 dead (well, unless vizier chose a rebel). There will be just people nominated for lynching.

- During the intrigue phase, each faction must select a player to accuse (the imam decides for the protesters). Certain abilities can be used during this phase as well.

- During subsequent court phases, everyone must vote to defame an accused player. The accused player with the majority of votes, or most votes once the phase ends, will be executed.

So during the intrigue (Night) you just "accuse" a player i.e. make them a candidate for voting/lynching. One player is accused by MafiaLoyalists, one by Rebels and one by Imam.

Then during next Court (D1 onwards) we get to vote to lynch. We can only vote for one of the three players accused/nominated.
