bluethief: I've never been a Star Trek fan and don't really know much of the lore. But I played both Elite Force games a long time ago and enjoyed them very much because they were fps games and the sci-fi setting is always appealing to me.
Yeah, they are some of my favorite games as well.....and I also like some of the other recently added Trek games.....hence why I added that aspect to the contest.

avatar
bluethief: Well, my favourite has to be this one :D
Always a classic :)

avatar
bluethief: 3. I'd just want to experience the no gravity feeling.
Wheeeee!

avatar
bluethief: For my birthday I like to keep the things simple: just me and my relatives having a good dinner.
I often keep mine more simple as well.

avatar
bluethief: Never watched the movie, is it any good? The Marilyn Manson cover of Sweet Dreams is great, though. And the video for it is that typical kinda creepy Marilyn Manson style that we don't get anywhere nowadays.
The film is imo one of the best from the company that made it, and well worth a watch if one is into horror.

As for the reception of others: it made double it's money at the box office, and was well received...even William Castle's descendant (who oversaw it's creation) liked it.
(of course, the "critics" didn't like it, but a number of them tend to pan horror movies heavily)

avatar
bluethief: First of all, thank you once again for doing another contest and bring joy to fellow goggers.

I'd like to enter for the Star Trek credit and the Party Favors
Thanks, and yer all set....best of luck to ya.

Lifthrasil: 1. Star Trek 4 - The voyage home.
The one with the whales and the time travel? Nice choice.

avatar
Lifthrasil: 3. I'd like to visit all the extreme exo-planets that have been discovered. The water planet, the carbon planet, the ultra-black planet, the ultra-dense one and the fluffy one and of course have a look at the planest in habitable zones, whether they contain life.
Even the ones with things like xenomorphs? o.0 ;)
Silliness aside, I hear ya on the exploration aspect....such things always piqued my interest as well.

I'll counter your song with a much more light-hearted birthday song by a German a capella band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZRYCz284aM
Thanks for the links....will listen in a bit.

Lifthrasil: In for Star Crawlers.
You mean the party favors, right? If so, then you were already set the moment you entered. :)
(all posters to this thread get put into that one automatically, and pick the game they want if their name is chosen)

Btw, just checking: you're not entering for either the Star Trek game credit or Shadow Man(classic), correct?

GamezRanker: Btw, just checking: you're not entering for either the Star Trek game credit or Shadow Man(classic), correct?
That's correct. Thanks for asking.
Usually I prefer the original song/music by the original artist(s) but the cover you linked to by Marilyn Manson of the Eurythmics song sung by Annie Lennox was much darker and I found it preferable.

My favorite character from Star Trek is James Tiberius Kirk. He is always confident and, no matter what adversity comes his way, he instinctively knows that there is a way to overcome it (or he will create one). This is true for even something believed to be impossible, such as the test for cadets attending Starfleet Academy, the Kobayashi Maru training exercise. This no-win scenario was, most unexpectedly, bested by the brash, almost impudent, cadet Jim Kirk. Chris Pine captured this larger than life persona extremely well in the movie Star Trek (2009)

I'm in for the Star Trek game(s) credit and if an appealing party favor is flung in my general direction I'll snatch it.

Thank you for inviting me to your party, GamezRanker. Here's wishing you a happy birthday!

Yeah Kirk was always one of my favorites as well.
(some of my fave Trek games are the old point and click games, 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites)

By the way: it's interesting you mention that test......as I was gonna make one way to enter be for entrants to try and find their own solution to said scenario/some other challenge in the Trek verse.

========================

"Time comes and goes, ever fleeting......precious moments here for a bit and then gone again. What will the future hold in store for me, for any of us, I wonder? No matter, once more into the fray.....beam me up, fate!"

First, let's set the proper tone with a nice little bit of music

GamezRanker: ---

Well it's time once again for yet another contest, and this one is a special one....as it's for a certain someone's upcoming birthday. :)

Now this year has had a few more 'blah moments' than usual, but the birthday personz still maintain a cheerful optimistic outlook on life none the less, and to boost morale a bit more(of themselves and others on GOG), they figured it'd be a good idea to hand out a few nice prizes to some lucky people.

To enter, an entrant must complete the entry requirement(s) and follow the rules listed below.....and also one more thing: have fun :)

---

Deadline

The deadline for entries for the two main draws (and door prize draw) will be September 20th, sometime between the hours of 1am and 12pm.

(there is no deadline for the party favors draws, they will continue until all the favors are handed out or until the contest closes)

Rules

1. An entrant must have joined before September 2021. All entries made by suspicious seeming accounts(i.e. accounts with little to no rep, with few/zero games and/or hidden libraries) will be subject to scrutiny before being added to the entrants list(s).

2. An entrant must complete the entry requirements listed below, and be able to be PMd(in case they win a prize). This can be done by either adding me as a PM friend, or allowing PMs from everyone for the duration of the contest.

3. An entrant can enter (for themselves or some other eligible gogger) for any or both of the two main giveaways listed below, and must state which they are entering for/opting out of & whom they are entering for(themselves/someone else). Also, like usual, every entrant/poster graciously gets added to the door prize draw by default.

***Note*** There is also a party favors draw, where I will pick from all entrants at random and then let them pick one game from a list of games i've gathered up. Every entrant is entered for this by default, but may turn it down if selected(if they don't want anything on the list of party favors/etc).

4. Be amazing and awesome to each other, as always. :)

---

Contest Requirements
(entrants must do at least one,
but can do more if they so chose)

1. Name your favorite (official or fan made) Star Trek film or series/episodes , or favorite Star Trek game/game level/game map, or favorite race/character....and then tell us why its your favorite.

2. Post some star trek media(music/video clips/picture attachments or links/etc) you like.

3. Tell us what you would like to do if you could go into space
(like in Star Trek or similar shows/media)

4. Tell us how you/your locale like to celebrate birthdays, and/or any special/fun/interesting things you or someone you know did for a recent birthday.

5. (optional, but appreciated) Watch the birthday music video link above near the top of this post, and let me know what ya think.

---

Main Prize Draws

1 Trek Game credit (this can be redeemed for any of the 6 recently added Trek games listed here)

I am in for both draws.

My favorite episode of Star Trek: The Original Series (first one) is The Squire of Gothos. I love how obnoxious Trelane is towards Kirk and how Kirk can do nothing about it at all until Trelane's own mother takes care of the situation.

For anyone who hasn't seen that episode, it's glorious.

Thanks, you're very generous! I'd like to participate, with Star Trek: Bridge commander as prize if I win.

So on to the questions:

1. I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan, but I've watched quite a lot of it when I was younger (much of TOS, TNG, Voyager and Enterprise). I think my favourite is still the original series. It just has a certain charm, because it is much more about exploration than any of the other series, and you feel space is a dangerous frontier, with something unknown ("monsters" like that salt creature or the cloud monster or the "flying pancakes" in Operation Annihilate, powerful beings like Trelane, alien probes like Nomad, lost civilizations etc.) lurking in every new star system. Even Enterprise never managed to bring that feeling across, despite being set earlier in the Star Trek chronology. I also like the references to human history, like when they travel back to the 1930s in City on the edge of forever, or that episode with a 20th century Roman empire with gladiatorial games (even if it's a bit silly). And the characters are just great, with the dynamics between Kirk, Spock and McCoy...I also liked the characters in TNG, but they felt more stiff and sterile by comparison.
I also think it's a plus how simple and naive TOS is. Later Star Trek series got too self-referential imo with the expansion of the Trek universe, there are too many stories which contain little more than fanservice in the form of references to previous episodes.
My favourite species would probably be the Romulans, have always been intrigued by their cunning nature. Their ships look great (both the warbirds in TOS and the later ships in TNG) and their cloaking devices were really cool. I really liked the Romulan commander in "Balance of terror", who was an honorable foe and in the end said that he and Kirk could have been friends under other circumstances, that was touching. Always felt a bit sad that the Romulans were left a bit under-developed in later series (imo they're more interesting than the Klingons).
Favourite villains: the Borg from TNG, terrifying concept (at least unless it was watered down in Voyager).
Favourite powerful being: Q from TNG (one of the best parts of that series imo).
Favourite creature: That silicone-based creature Horta from TOS, such a heart-warming story. Also liked the salt vampire ("last of its kind", tragic) and the guy who lived thousands of years in "Requiem for Methusaleh".
My favourite Star Trek games are undoubtedly 25th anniversary and Judgement rites. I think they nailed the atmosphere of TOS perfectly. In general I'd say point-and-click adventures are the best genre for telling a Star Trek story, much more suitable than action games (even if thouse are pretty fun, have just played the Elite forces and enjoyed them, also liked Starfleet academy).

2. I mostly didn't like Enterprise much, but I enjoyed the two episodes set in the mirror universe. I usually dislike excessive self-referentiality, but those two episodes were pretty fun, I really liked the beginning and changed intro of "In a mirror darkly":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXw6hC7hxBA

3. Travel to a pleasure planet (and maybe then go on an archaeological expedition like Picard did in one episode.

4. I don't celebrate my birthdays much anymore. Most recent thing I did in that regard was buy two books as birthday gifts for my father.

5. Not a fan of Marilyn Mansion personally, but at least it's better than if you had posted "It's my birthday, and I'll cry if I want to" :-)

Anyway, all the best for your birthday, I hope you have fun.
I'm not entering this giveaway and wish everybody else good luck for this contest / giveaway.

Just out of curiosity:

given that my account profile is pretty much set to private and I'm not terribly active in the GoG community, would I qualify as "suspicious seeming account"?

I think both have their upsides, though I do admit the point and clicks have that special sort of charm to them.
(btw, ever play Final Unity? A nice game, with somewhat different dialog/actions/etc depending on which characters you bring along and/or have perform various actions)

Well, seeing as you have plenty of games(more than there likely have been freebies over the years), you'd likely have been approved had you entered.
(the scrutinizing is mostly of accounts that are either very new or very old, with few/no games in their libraries....which may likely be alts/sock puppets)

No, never had a chance to play that one, would be great if it comes to Gog some day.
I suppose you've played Judgement rites? There's an entire mission with Trelane in it (just wanted to point it out, since you wrote above he's one of your favourite characters in TOS).

EDIT: And yes, I'm not in for Shadowman (not my kind of game).
