I have always liked GOG. Any time there was a game that was slated for release on GOG I waited so I could get the GOG version. Even when the game lacked the multiplayer features of other services, I'd still buy it on GOG. They were very small sacrifices to make compared to supporting a company that treated their employees well, had good customer service, and were morally upstanding.

So it comes out that CDPR forces the devs of cyberpunk to crunch for months and I convince myself that it's still better than other platforms so it's not enough to stop supporting them.

Then I open cyberpunk after having it preordered as soon as it became available and it's just not very good. I don't want to refund it because, hey, everyone makes mistakes and I figured they'd patch it to improve it over time. Besides, I gotta support the good guys in the industry, right?

Then I see the tweet about Devotion and think "Sure am glad GOG will stand by the little guys and give Taiwanese developers a platform! This game looks good, I think I'll get it!"

Then you do the same thing Steam did. You pull the game to capitulate to the CCP.

The same CCP that unethically censors their own people, uses face recognition technology and uses draconian measures to control their population. The same CCP that destroyed Chinese history and forced the Taiwanese to grab as much of their history as they could and flee in order to protect the true China. The CCP that is planning on invading Taiwan and culturally appropriating it in order to rectify their mistake. The CCP that is currently committing genocide against the Uighur Muslims because they want China to be ethnically homogeneous. I would have thought a Polish company would care more about that but I guess money is more important to you, huh?

Censoring your platform to remove criticism of Xi Jinping constitutes tacit support of the CCP. The CCP needs their dictator to appear strong and crack down heavily on anything that makes him appear weak. They can't have their populace questioning their dictator or maybe the people of China will support a better government and hold the CCP accountable for their actions.

Just an honest question. You treat your employees just as poorly as any other company. You support genocidal dictatorships just like other companies. Your digital distribution platform is objectively worse than every other in terms of number of games, new releases, multiplayer features, and adoption. Why should anyone give you their money? What reason is left to support GOG?

GOG, I am extremely disappointed in you. I feel betrayed. I have requested a refund of cyberpunk, and I'm refunding all my current preorders as well. I will no longer give your platform any support, or money.

If anyone on here wants GOG or CDPR to care at all about this problem you should do the same.

Steam sales are better anyway.

I think you may have been deluding yourself somewhat. GOG is clearly nothing like it used to be, and hasn't been for some time. Corruption is spreading everywhere like wildfire, and clearly GOG wants to be a part of it.

Even without caring about the ethics of the company you buy games from, GOG has become ridiculously expensive. They're selling games that are a quarter of a century old for absurd prices,.

Even though they managed to sucker 8 million people into buying their broken and or unfinished Cyberpunk 2077, I suspect that any remaining trust in GOG is gone now, and it won't be so easy next time.

In the case of this game, Steam didn't pull it. The devs did. I'm not saying Steam definitely wouldn't have taken it down later, but as things happened, they didn't.

GOG is spineless worm for referring to China as many gamers.

Many is an understatement

Try "A metric Fuck-ton of gamers"

And this is precisely why all these corporations are feeding into the communist propaganda. I figured this was what it was, but didn't google. Thanks for doing that for me. Imagine the world economy being controlled by 1 madman because he controls the world's largest country. This is what happens when capitalism is hijacked by corporations (which fundamentally undermine capitalism): it is illegal to ignore your fiduciary duty.

By many gamers, GOG was referring to these guys

Could be about one ton together.

tHeTonIvAl: ...
The thing is, if you really want to no longer support companies bowing down to china then I really hope you are ready to live as en hermit and grow your own food because all of them does.

Yes Gog handled that very poorly and I still cannot fathom how they could even manage to do something so dumb, but at the end of the day, not doing X or Y to not anger China is something that every single multi-national companies did at one time or another, and worse, most countries.

David9855: I see people are very passionate about this topic. GOG has banned games in certain places before such as Hotline Miami 2 in Australia. I certainly didn't appreciate that censorship as a grown adult and I still don't.
Did Australian administration ask GOG to ban Hotline Miami 2 in Australia? I mean, China is asking GOG to ban Devotion not just in China, but in Australia as well.

That's what is infuriating, and worse, the nerve to tell us that "gamers" made them do it.
While I won't do anything as drastic as deleting my account, I have severely pruned my wishlist.
I do need to use up my wallet funds after all.
Which is going to be harder going forward, since they won't even allow me to use the redeem page anymore.

I was only slightly interested in Cyberpunk 2077, but seeing as it's the same crappy "gameplay" elements as in most modern cross-platform action interactive movie-games, I wasn't too surprised, but still disappointed nonetheless.

What does grind my gears though is censorship and DRM.
Bowing down to China, pushing Galaxy..
The abysmal state of the store and the forums are just the dredge at the bottom of the barrel.

I will seriously adjust my compass and sail as to what games I need to buy here in the future.

Nothing wrong with your post but I would like to point out that the stated article is not relevant at this time.
See attached picture just printed from Steam's hardware survey.

Still a metric ton of cash worth of players.

Not related to OP but I'm looking foward to what Steam's China only client will do to hardware survey stats, even if the client is internet cafe only.

People aren't passionate about the topic, they're entertained by it. Don't confuse entertainment with passion. In a few weeks they'll forget all about it and nothing will have changed.

Democratic nations will sill trade with authoritarian nations. Authoritarian nations will still use their power to force corporations to bend to their will (If GoG didn't pull the game, the CCP would ban GoG from the Chinese market. That's how it works.) And we will STILL have every single corporation who does business with china further empowering China while they strip away our rights.

Lesser Blight Elemental: I'm not sure that GOG management realize how dependent they are on the goodwill of their core userbase. They're not Actiblizz, they don't have multiple exclusive games that millions are addicted to. They don't even have exclusivity on CDPR games. They're desperately trying to push Galaxy as a Steam competitor, and after this past week, I have no doubt they're willing to sell out even their core principle of selling DRM-free games. In fact, they already have. So I'm done. Whatever games I was going to buy on GOG, I'll get them on Steam or elsewhere instead, just out of spite. Clearly it doesn't make a difference, since I'm buying from opportunistic vultures without principles either way.
It comes down to stock brokers who represent the stockholdrs saying "hey, china's lucrative." It's like the whole thing of "gaming phones" i heard people invested in. The people i met who were hardcore proud to be investing in "gaming phones" obviously didn't play video games or understand the gaming market.

Shiznown: There is one huge, huge difference. Steam is privately owned, which means no investors to bow to. If that ever changes I'll be done with gaming altogether. I'm almost there as it is. No modding, games as a service, sjw bs infested into gaming.

Lionel212008: We have enough SJW bs in pop-culture as it is. I remember mortal kombat in its glory and the scantily clad women. Then comes MK 11 where Sindel is the only silver lining. I miss games like heavy metal fakk 2. Wait.... is that one here?
I didn't say we didn't in pop culture. It's infested everything and call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but don't you find it odd that masculinity has been demonized around the same time that all these companies started shilling out to China? meanwhile in China they push the idea of people strong and powerful. That doesn't sound like a coincidence to me.

I am a former pick up artist and being the alpha male is what I ascribe to. The way I see it, there are those who make the rules and the unfortunate who follow them. Southpark did get it right.

It's not a conspiracy. The femi nazis have run amok.
