A spiritual successor to the arcade classic Rampart is coming soon on GOG.COM. Sky Cannoneer from Element Games will let you build up fortifications, place cannons, and rain fire on the enemy forces. As a skilled Corsair from the Sky Lord's Navy, you must unravel the truth behind the plague that ravaged your planet Emoria.
holy shit, rampart! (https://www.mobygames.com/game/rampart/screenshots) except it somehow looks worse, for me anyway. just like when 2d games went 3d back in the 90s and the result was similarly disappointing, even though they might've gone with 90s aesthetics on purpose.

Oh... It looks like one of those free games from Google Play.

The quality of new releases on GOG is declining day by day.
500 femtoseconds after looking at the storepage: "This looks not really good to be on GOG, what the hell is this?"
10 nanoseconds after looking at the storepage: "OMG THIS IS A RAMPART REMAKE BUT WITH FLOATING ISLANDS INSTEAD, TAKE MY MONEY DEVS!"

Once this comes out I instabuy this one thats for sure. I've been waiting for decades for something like this.

yes it does look like Google Play, and also like a game that is on Steam, doesn't mean the game(s) will be bad, it's just not what we are used to see on GoG, many joined for the Good Old Games , that's the reason i signed up to get all the Good Old Games again and play them on xp, win7( 64bits).

Anyway the new games are more like a bonus, i own a few of the new games , but the majority of my games are old games .

yes, there was a time when developers felt they needed to remake or copycat calssic 2d games , and use a "3d "engine"
( note the quotes i put around the word 3d engine) imho they shouldn't have done that but everything changes and games have to get the 3D treatment sooner or later ( i always avoid the 3d versions)

Anyway the only game that used a " 3d" engine is Gorky 17 , i love the game and it's one of the very few games i have that use a "3d engine", FPP games and zoomin zoom out rotate 360 around the y axis are also not on my list)

Is this game gonna have random maps and/or an endless mode?
I wouldn't mind Gog to curate bad looking games, if that meant they also curated the bad looking games I want to play.

But I'm out of luck.
This game reminds me of how much we need NetStorm: Islands At War here.

Oh mighty GOGBear, who's steadfast DRM-free-ness makes some publishers cower and tremble in fear, hear your lowly customer's plea and make it happen some day!

Edit: And here's the wishlist link for it.

Yes it started as Good Old Games and it was an old game that got me to the site. But it was the DRM free that kept me and they expanded from just old games to all games they can get drm free, old and new. Im guessing it had a lot to do with their name change to GoG so they would attract customers based on drm free rather than just classic games.

Just because they started as old games doesnt mean they cant evolve and expand. I would rather have all games drm free and see GoG grow to be one of or the largest platform. Limiting their customer and product base to old games really limits their potential and their longevity. I think a lot of people like me realized its actually a huge deal for consumers rights to actually own their games and not have to deal with the intrusive and limiting drm. Theres no reason to avoid selling all games and getting az many as they can here. Theres only so many good old games and to limit their library to them wouls ensure eventual failure. Its not to knock anyone at all and I completely support brining as many old games as possible, I just see it as only a positive thing to get as many good games as possible and see the community and list of drm free options grow
:) I'd like to see GOG be able to take more and more of hands-off approach so they don't have to spend so much time on each release (I assume they still have to be pretty hands-on), and so more games (that can pass a basic "mostly bug-free" quality filter, if you will) can easily come here. Get as close to "drag and drop to add Galaxy features includ. multiplayer" as possible for devs. ;) Hopefully we can get more and more games here and people can decide what they do or don't want to buy (for the devs and pubs who don't mind DRM-free of course).

yay :D

I am with you, though I would also point out that by the time these DRM-loving publishers are finally willing to bring their games here, their games have essentially become "good old games." We are missing games here from publishers like EA and Bethesda that are "older", from time of release to present, than some of the original titles brought to GOG.

As long as PC games keep getting made over the years, there will continue to be a supply of "old" games since time keeps going on. It's not as though "good old games" stopped in the 90s, though one could argue that game quality and complete content did. All that said, here's to getting a bonus version of the original Rampart to go with Sky Cannoneer.

Exactly! It always puzzles me when someone says that old games are in limited supply. Even if one only focuses on the games made before the year of 2000, there is still a ton of hits that are not in the store. I could name dozens just out of my head. And then of course with the passage of every year some "new" games inevitably become "old".

I am personally not interested in this game, although I would have bought Rampart.
I've never hear of Rampart but it would be good to have it here on GOG

GOG bringing modern games is not a problem.

The problem is GOG releasing less old games or less old looking modern games as a result of having adopted a quality based curation.

I would be very happy to see GOG opening the gates and allowing every game, Steam or Itch style, and let us customers sort the good from the bad. I'm a bit tired of having to search elsewhere retro-looking indie games that I follow but are eventually refused by GOG curation. GOG could even duplicate the storefront on a "curated" section with only quality titles and a "buyers beware" section with near to no curation, that way casual gamers with little criteria wouldn't get burn too much from buying a bad game.

I see the quality of new releases is back to the usual middling level.
