Nevermind, just noticed the "coming soon". Somehow thought this has already been out for ages.

It was, in Early Access, glad to see it made its way here :)
Indeed, it still is in early access. The devs are still adding the campaign. Good that it comes to GOG, as I haven't played/purchased a game on steam for ages, but I was wondering whether to make an exception.
WOW!!!

Ok GOG, I have to eat my words! You did it!

I emailed Asmodeee many times about coming to GOG and never heard a word. I expected it was never going to happen.

Thanks for proving me wrong!
Anyone know how the AI is?

I was in the same boat. When I heard the game was coming out of EA, I was almost resigned to a Steam purchase...

Wow, still can't believe GOG got this.

Sorry, I haven't heard anything in the many reviews I've watched about the AI, but my guess is it's adequate to get an "Overwhelmingly Positive" ranking in the most recent Steam reviews and "Very Positive" overall.

With Gog’s current stance with DRM I have to ask - is this game DRM-free or gimped from the original version in anyway? Historically, the Gog and board game track record hasn’t been good (see Armello and that Gremlin Inc game). Asmodee hasn’t been too bad though. Been interested in this since it came out on Steam and wasn’t expecting this here.
How is it a dungeon crawler? Nothing in the footage indicates that it has any dungeon exploration, just combat.
Would be interested if you could please detail what is the deal with the online co-op mode? I.e., am I able to play DRM-free without restrictions, or will it require Galaxy/third party account/etc?

the way each "game" of gloomhaven is set up:

you go into a dungeon and then you encounter folks there.

there's room for exploration, though most dungeons aren't particularly deep [or too big.]

You could compare it to Slay the Spire. You have some control over what challenges you face, but the combat is the core game. However, you have to be careful with your resources and what equpment/cards you pick up. What makes Gloomhaven special is the quality of the challenge.

This is based on a board game.

The "AI" is very gamey. Each foe has a deck of 8 cards, and each turn, one is revealed. All enemies do what the card says. The cards are revealed AFTER you choose what your cards are for the round, but BEFORE you actually execute your actions (for flexibility, such as steering clear if a foe is using its giant melee attack but not moving this round). The deck goes until shuffled. Two of the cards in the deck have a reshuffle icon that preemptively shuffles it.

As you learn foes' card options, you can use it to influence the cards you pick. If you know the monsters have already used all their fast initiative cards, maybe you'll play your middle/slower cards since you might still beat them out.

Here are the skeletal archer cards as an example:

Ask plenty of questions. I haven't played the digital implementation, but I've played tons of Gloomhaven tabletop. There's a good reason it's rated the #1 board game of all time on boardgamegeek.com ["IMDB of board games"]. https://www.boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame?sort=rank&rankobjecttype=subtype&rankobjectid=1&rank=1

It should be noted that the AI follows the board game rules.

Asmodee (the EA of tabletop/board games) and their digital branch usually makes you go through their system for online multiplayer. It doesn't seem to have an ownership check or anything, but you do have to sign up for an account with them and it goes through their servers. See: Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. (The recent Carcassonne release had DRM, an exclusive mini-expansion you could only get, even for single player, as a 'reward' for signing up and registering through their systems.)

Aside, most of the games usually also have local hotseat play.
