Tugging at the threads of fate.

EITR, a combat-intensive tale woven within the intriguing tapestry of Norse mythology, is coming soon, DRM-free, to GOG.com.

When Loki the trickster god tampered with your Shield Maiden's fate, he forever upset the balance maintained by the great tree Yggdrasil. Study your opponents' moves, strike with cunning and vigor, and discover the destiny bestowed upon you. EITR's innovative experience system lets you choose between the safety of permanent upgrades or the gamble of powerful ones that disappear upon death, like tears in rain.

Watch the trailer.

CharlesGrey: Eh, the pixel art is decent enough, I'm more put off by the fact that most Indie devs fail to stick to a single consistent style.

Breja: I wish they actually had some style of their own to stick to. 90% of those pixelated indies have the same generic "retro" look. My personal dislike for pixelated graphics aside, I seriously can't look at something like Apotheon or Hollow Knight and then Eitr, and not see the latter as if not ugly, than at least boring and bland.
Kinda makes you wonder why they didn't just go for higher res 2D art, like the games you mentioned. I don't mind low-res pixel art, as long as it's well done, but higher res artwork is generally better suited for these modern effects. High-res 2D art also leaves the artists some more room to experiment with unique styles, as is the case with Apotheon or The Banner Saga.

I understand that some Indies go for a minimalistic style due to budget constraints or because it's part of the game concept. But this game already has a rather gritty and detailed look, and I doubt increasing the artwork resolution would have significantly increased the workload. Oh well, I don't mind too much as long as it's overall a fun game experience. I'll just wait for the release and some reviews.

Archimidis: Not a big fan of overpixelated graphics, but this one is supposed to have a very good combat system, similar to Dark/Demon Souls. So definitely worth buying - provided the price makes sense, of course.
I've seen plain garbage "games" like "Lone Survivor" way overpriced just because the developer thinks he made a masterpiece. I assume this is not the case here, so for a decent price, count me in.
Heh, off topic, but I didn't like Lone Survivor either. Wouldn't call it garbage, but I couldn't really get into it... At the very least, it's a prime example for excessive use of modern filters on top of otherwise "retro" graphics.

And yeah, this game immediately made me think of the Souls series too. A good 2D Souls clone would be welcome, but it all stands or falls with the combat system. Here's hoping they know what they're doing.

CharlesGrey: Lone Survivor
The thing that surprised me the most about Lone Survivor - which I didn't care for at all - was that the guy responsible for it also composed the awesome track that plays while the scoreboard is displayed at the end of a level of Hotline Miami.
Im not a fan of this particular pixel graphic. Theres plenty of better 2d graphic engines out there i dont understand why they chose this particular unappealing graphic.

zais: So the main question now is 'how soon is soon?'
Indeed. I had forgotten it was already on my Steam wishlist.
wow, it's been a while since Eitr was announced, great to know it'll be launching on gog as well! Hopefully stands up to the hype, can't wait to try it out since I never got the chance to play Dark Souls (macbooks are no fun).
Looks like the chick from Brave grew up and became a badass...in pixel art. Count me in!
I've been waiting for this game forever. Happy to see it'll be released here as well.
Sounds good, and with Linux support I'll buy it.

Very much agreed. Some of these games might interest me if they didn't seem so cut and paste in visual style and often gameplay as well.

fronzelneekburm: Eitr. Splendid! Native German speakers will love that name! It sounds exactly like the German word for "pus".
avatar
CharlesGrey: Apparently it means something along the lines of "poison", so pus/eiter isn't that far off.
It's a "gift"...

Also wishlisting this one.

Don't see why they couldn't have drawn at a higher res, though.
low rated
I'm not against pixel art per se, but geez, it's 2017. That's a bit lazy of devs I think, if you don't have money, why not go hand-drawn higher-res or at least do better pixel art - Metal Mutant came out in 1991 and graphics there look better than this.
Finally!
I played the demo last year at Tokyo Game Show and, as a Dark Sould fan, I was quite impressed.
I'll be looking forward to playing it.
wow, the art and music is very nice, gonna keep my eye on this one
Oh boy I have been waiting for this game for so long. I thought the development was already dead. Awesome to hear that they are close to release. I am really not a fan of pixel-art games, but this one really caught my attention. Does anyone have an idea how much it will cost?

haha, but don't you think it gives EITR a nice personality? I like the way it enhances and accentuates the feeling of dread, it also takes me a bit back to Diablo II which is always nice.
