GOG.com: Coming soon: Coffee Noir - Business Detective Game
Prepare for a unique combination of a business management game and detective novel
So,...it's a blend of business sim and detective sim?
Nice to see a Linux game planning to come out on GOG! They are rare now.

Looks interesting. Thanks for the Linux support and the demo!
Seems to be a well-made mix of different genres; a managerial combined with a detective adventure set in a parallel universe with odd sci-fi technology... Is this a new genre? Have to try the demo asap.
Difficult to judge this one based on the limited demo. I like the comic-panel style used for storytelling, voice acting on the other hand I do not. The actors sounded like they were just reading their script not much voice acting there.

The sleuth part? Based on this demo it seems all you ever do is talk to clients/suspects. No collecting clues, drawing conclusions, and in the vein of detective adventures, Sinking Island comes to mind, connect the dots to find the one who done it. it doesn't seem to be necessary. The game does it all for you and presents information to you. Clues, items, people and important information it is all there. With little to no work on my part to investigate this part also feels shallow ... Negotiating with clients isn't very challenging either. You know who this person is, what clues you have to look for in their dossier, to know which conversation option you got to choose to succeed.

The Tycoon part? I would like to know why it exists. It seems tacked on as vehicle to advance the detective story. Make your company profitable and you will be granted access to clients in very high positions, one of them likely being the one who done it. Your task, turn some knobs, hire new personnel, manage the company and have goods transported to clients.

The way this demo presents the game it is obvious that it is neither here nor there. It is neither a real detective adventure nor a tycoon. Developers should have decided on one genre and stick to it to make it stand out in a positive way. Flesh out the murder mystery adventure, allow me collect clues and draw conclusions, let me find possible suspects and witnesses, have me connect the little dots in a way Sinking Island did and grant me the pleasure of solving it by using my own faculties. The way it is this is little more than a visual novel with more interaction making it distinct from that genre. Most of the time you click thru dialogs anyway or watch some cut-scene to advance the story.

The loading screen ticked me off ... Visit a client? Loading screen. A cut-scene ends? Loading screen. Back to your office? Loading screen. Watch a scene again? Loading screen ... I can't see myself playing this game for very long when every few minutes I got to see a Loading screen for a couple of seconds.

While interesting in a way this isn't a game I would buy anytime soon.

I have to admit this looks interesting. Definitely wishlisted.
Will the full version of the game have a windowed mode and full-screen mode in the Settings?

This. I was afraid of this.
The idea and trailer were interesting, but it's something different to actually complete such an ambitious plan.

Reading what one of the developers had to say it is even worse.

2. In the full version, if a player chooses to focus more on the business and management part, he or she can spend more time on making money and postpone the story part.

I, too, like the idea and they could still make it work if they wanted to. The way it is this isn't the game I see myself playing. I left my feedback on Steam because it's unlikely that developers pay very much attention to what's being discussed and opined around these parts ... Demo Feedback
nice demo ....

regarding the graphics and screen

demo doesnt use fullscreen.... there is unused space on the top and the bottom.... it shows black .... ( on default 1024x768)

maybe adding option to utilise fullscreen ? It would benefit lower resolutions like 1024 x 768 ... at the moment there is unused space ...

The intro is wobbly .... like a ship on the sea... it goes up and down .... almost got ""seasick"" :D
maybe ad an option to turn it of an use a steady screen, as it is now it looks like a moving body cam has recorderd a movie

The ingame arrow cursor is pretty big compared to the rather small items in the room
CPU usage is 5% that is rather high on a i7-9700K :D maybe use less fps or add an option to set to sue less frames ( a few other unity games have a setting like that)

An onboard GPU will probably NOT do too well

The GTX 750 2 GB is old but a load of 5% cpu is a little too much, ( maybe game uses to many fps ? )

Anyway the game looks rather good already , minus the performance things i mentioned earlier,
maybe the game needs to raise the current minimum

Minimum system requirements:
System:
Windows 7+
Processor:
2.4 GHz Dual Core Processor --------------------------->for the demo you need 3ghz ( maybe it will get optimised more)
Memory:
2 GB RAM .......................... i have 32 so i can't check that :D
Graphics: ............................. ???
1 GB .................................... ????
DirectX: okay
Wersja 11 ( i assume wersja is version ?) :D
S torage:
2 GB okay

It's looks good already but you do need the largest screen possible and a moder GPU: 2 GB is the minimum imho and 4 would be better ( unity games are quite resource hungry and heavy on hardware :D

I had a same experience .... to me it sounded like someone was reading up loud... .

I know that game , i got Sinking Island on gamersgate, it looked interesting back then , i never got to finish it... too complicated and it had some ""bugs""

Some casual games usally use that way to solve crimes in casual games

personally i'"m not to fond of Tycoon games .... i have few but never play them :D

I was tempted to buy it.... but after playing it and discovering things i mentioned in my reply, i decided to not buy it at release but wait a long while and buy it maybe one day at a huge discount.

What a confusing mess.
Hi guys! It's Kamil here from the DOJI team. I'll be happy to answer your questions about Coffee Noir, so feel free to ask. In meantime, let me answer some things you've already pointed out.

So first of all, the demo version of the game was ment to let you feel the general vibe of the story and give you some idea of the game mechanics. At the same time, it's pretty much just a tutorial and it doesn't let you do things on your own. Even if you'd turn the tutorial off, demo would end before you can actually see the consequences of your actions. So while it's not the best possible way to present Coffee Noir, that's the best we could do at that time.

Script for Coffee Noir is lenghty, and there's A LOT of voice over in the game (all negotiations, comic book pages, story dialogues, cutscenes and even some more). It's difficult, especially during the pandemic, to find the right actors in the right age and with the accents we wanted. Some of them performed better, some of them worse, but we couldn't affort time and money to look for better options. But so you know - some of those actors were told to be a little dull and formal, as this is how we wanted to portrai them. Before the game releases, you'll be able to hear samples of almost all the characters there are in the game (with exception for those who must remain unknown) in dedicated posts in our social media, so stay tuned.

We realize that business games don't attract huge audiences, but we hope that those who are into this genre will find Coffee Noir to be a memorable experience. We wanted to make something close to our hearts and something that will stand out from the crowd. While we're almost done with the production and there's not much space for making changes, I'm here to answer all of your questions, explain you our reasoning behind some decisions and help you figure out if full version of Coffee Noir is something you want to play. ;)

CoffeeNoirTeam:
Welcome, I nearly missed this game from wishlisting.
I also hope you'll stay and support the game on GOG (ie: Season Pass/Complete if there will be DLCs) and all future updates. Don't get discouraged if initial sales are lackluster, we are a picky bunch with huge backlogs, but we'll get there eventually :)
