Chasm: The Rift, one of the most thrilling and innovative classic FPS, is coming to GOG with full 4K support, improved sound design, achievements, and localised into 12 languages.
Genre: Action, Shooter

mk47at: No, it does not use the Quake engine.
Doesn't it? It fooled me, then, I'd say they look a lot alike.

IronArcturus: Wishlisted! Is there an ETA for the game?
avatar
amok: On Steam it says "RELEASE DATE: October 2022", so I guess that's the closest we get
October is it's anniversary month ... 25 years I think.

Yes, but it is not the same engine. Chasm: the rift use a proprietary engine (not even sure if it is named). The main difference is that Quake is a fully 3D engine, but the one Chasm uses is in fact 2.5D (not fully 3D). It means that in Chasm you can not for example put any sector on top of other sectors, but you can in Quake.

Back in the day, I had almost as much fun playing Chasm as I did Quake, so it doesn't suffer much from not being full 3D.

yeah, the only thing that matters is if the game is fun to play. Doom is fun, and that is really a fancy 2D engine (yes, I know it can be classified as 2.5D...)

Yep, and another great game ... if you can focus on the great gameplay etc and not worry about the aged graphics.

I actually played Doom for the first time after I played and fell in love with Quake. And at some point I then played Wolfenstein 3D, which suffered by comparison, but was still very enjoyable, and Doom in its way was almost as enjoyable as Quake.

My first introduction into serious gaming on a PC, was Quake. I wasn't really a gamer before that. It opened my eyes and my mind. It showed me that computer games could be for adults too ... and you didn't have to be a nerd, which I wasn't at that point.

I played many other games before I finally got around to trying and completing CHASM: The Rift.
Excellent, I was waiting for years for this to turn up here :)
OMG, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Finally I can cut the limbs of these clowns or whatever they were, yeeey! (❁´◡`❁)
I played the hell out of the demo in the 90s. Sadly never had the chance to play it later. Of course nowadays there are different options to do so, but I am very happy, that we get an updated version of the game here. :)
Honestly I had no idea that the engine was 2.5D. Never was aware of it. That proves that it looked pretty consistent in the past. Visually and gameplay wise closer to Quake than to Doom overall
O very nice, a proper classic

Broke my original disk, was a while before I played Quake 1 thereafter - thus avoided playing Doom at all back then

Level design was fun, and progression through them was really intrigueing
Hell yeah, a crazy good piece of old-school maze FPS, complete with jank and weird puzzle bosses, but i love it.

Found the complete patched version from a friend years ago when he backed up his collection, I'm happy to see it here.
That is something unbelievable! I want to play Chasm The Rift so much, want to play it ALL!!! from start to the finish :))) and after that a couple more times, YES!
Excellent (and, at this point, unexpected) news!

Another wish-list entry ticked off. Actually, make that six wish-list entries... (do people not know how the search works?!)

This could be a lot of fun.
Old Carnivores series would be also good candidates to be released in GOG. Classic, maybe they have traces of the same engine and from the same developers.
