Probably using 3D engine like Shovel Knight. Yes, Shovel Knight actually using a 3D engine to built the game because it's easier that way. You can check the youtube channel "Boundary Break" where they explore Shovel Knight and how it was built.

This is very true, and they became sharply more conservative (and therefore somewhat/much less accurate) about it just a year or two ago.

For particular games there can *also* be other reasons on top of that, if new code of some sort has been added, like a new GUI that wraps the old game, or if an emulator is being used, and so on -- the new code may need far more resources than the original game.

Also certain publishers seem to use the same identical set of conservative requirements for *all* of their games on Gog, rather than trying to make it more accurate for each game.

In particular, if there's a trilogy, with each game sold separately (Game I, Game II, Game III The Final Game), it's very common for publishers to use the conservative requirements for the final game on game 1 and game 2 as well.

Hi! Since Cathedral is a persistent world, there are checkpoints scattered throughout the world. We've made great effort to put them in locations where the game is still tough, but also very fair. The game will auto save whenever you've activated a checkpoint. :)

Bringing up the Amiga makes it a total apples versus oranges comparison.

The Amiga had several dedicated specialized chips for processing audio and graphics, unlike PCs and Macs of that era.

That said, my understanding was that Cathedral was a brand new game, not a resurrection of a Good Old Game; one news site says "Decemberborn's in development NES-inspired 8bit adventure"

If it really is a brand new game, then it's hardly surprising that its requirements are in the ballpark of more modern games, not 1990 games.

Did someone actually claim that this is a port of an old Amiga game?
Nobody claimed that ,I just said because of the 8 bit look, the requirements suprised me, thats all :D

Yes, we use a custom engine! It's not actually 8 bit - the pixel art is only a stylistic choice, but there's nothing making it "easier" to render on modern hardware than any other sprite. And we do actually perform 3D transforms in order to create the illusion of layers. The only thing actually making it not seem 3D, is that we don't use a perspective projection. We still use modern technologies for rendering and handling scripts etc. behind the scenes :)
