The year is 50 B.C. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well, not entirely…

The Gauls are back and coming soon to GOG.COM in Asterix & Obelix: Slap them All!, a brand-new 2D horizontal scrolling Beat Them Up game, completely hand-drawn and made in the purest tradition of the genre.

Matewis: Sure, which is why I'm also definitely going to buy it. I'm just too excited that a game like this is being made!

As for Batman, in my case I'd kill for a modern The Animated Series adaption. The closest I've gotten are skins from that series in Arkham City, for both Batman and Catwoman, and even just those few crumbs were awesome.
But unfortunately Norm Breyfogle will be harder to capture in a game.
I went with Breyfogle since I was talking about comics. Otherwise I'd go for The Animated Series too. The Alan Grant/Norm Breyfogle comics and TAS are closely related in my mind anyway. They are what I grew up with, are similar in tone and types of stories, and they still are, in my opinion, the best versions of Batman in their respective media.

Croyzers: This is either going to be absolutely amazing or absolutely crap

I'm hoping for the former, but this really has the look of a mobile phone game.

Please be good, please be good...

pds41: I know! The name isn't helping... "Slap them All!" :S
Yeah, as much as I'm enthusiastic about the game, I have to say the title is terrible. Why wouldn't they just call it The Adventures of Asterix & Obelix, or Asterix and Obelix Strike Back? Or Asterix and Obelix are 2D Again?

Matewis: Ooh definitely my cup of tea :D However, I don't know about anyone else, but there is something ever so slightly off about Asterix and Obelix's appearance, and the other characters too to an extent. Like it's a 90% faithful replication/adpation of Uderzo's style. Perhaps it's just the lines that are too thin for my taste.
Dunno, something is just bugging me about it. Do the characters look a little lifeless to anyone else?
It's the shading, or whatever it's called.
They never used that in the albums. It looks off. Horrible.
Yet again, Asterix is "modernized". It's a curse.
Looks interesting

How about calling Asterix & Obelix : God save Britannia?

It's been listed as from Mr Nutz Studio, which is a different developer to the recent Romastered collections (which I totally loved) but under the same publisher Microids, so some hope this will be good.

As others have noticed, the artwork looks a bit "off". This is typical for mobile phone games, where the art gets aliased to hell and colours adjusted so it looks bright on a phone. I've tried looking to see if this is a port of mobile phone game but nothing is coming up.

I'm still really interested in this, as I did love the recent Asterix games, and will be buying from GOG

ValamirCleaver: This games looks like the Konami arcade game with re-drawn graphics.

Goodness, you know I played that years ago. It was bugging me as I knew I had seen an arcade game, I thought it was an Amstrad CPC game but haven't been able to find it.

Even if it isn't an updated version of the arcade game, let's hope this version is as good as the arcade game.

Thanks for the nostalgia trip there.

The "let's-use-just-one-line-thickness-for-everything" - decision of the art department really makes the graphics look lifeless and flat.
The header image on the game's shop page shows how the varying line weight adds to the liveliness of the comics.

true! it's drawing 101! but consider that while playing you will not be looking at still frames like in a comic book. Your eyes will be busy with the movement and at some point one gets used to the style. Hopefully the story is fun and in the spirit of the comics and the action valid!
Also, they say hand drawn but they might have used some 3D model as a base and have the lines made automatically, and then retouched by hand when necessary? I wonder.

I like the hand drawn art style, like in Worms W.M.D and Streets Of Rage 4. It is aesthetically pleasing. Well done.
Another indie low-poly CalArts 2D brown pixel-art game with overly-colorful mobile-style graphics? Why does every micro-budget indie dev not have the budget for traditional hand-drawn frame-by-frame Walt Disney-quality Richard Williams-taught animation like Cuphead? *clap emoji* Rob Liefeld.
Can't wait to start slapping.
