It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I may be dumb, but I've unistalled my antivirus, disabled my windows firewall (brand mauer or how do you call tht in English - I am not a native speaker) and I still can't install my purchased games (Master of Orion and Master of Orion 2) on my Windows XP.

I'd be thankfull for any suggestions on what am I doing wrong. Feel free to ask any extra questions.

PS I've tried to "Run as Admin" - no difference.

Since you have not written, how you try t install them, we cant say what you are doing wrong - maybe you are doing nothing wrong. As a first step I would recommend looking in the MoO subforum, maybe somebody alredy dealt with a situation like yours.

No need to disable those (firewall is correct)

You did download from

https://www.gog.com/downloader/listing/master_of_orion_2
https://www.gog.com/downloader/listing/master_of_orion_classic

To download from there, you might need

https://www.gog.com/downloader

You shall have two exe files.

All what you then need to do is double click and follow the instructions.
Did you get any error-messages?

And you might be better off asking in the specific sub-forum ;)

https://www.gog.com/forum/master_of_orion_series#1474551777

EDIT: No need for admin either

Describe what you are doing when you try to install the games, and tell us what happens, then we shall try to understand what it is that fails and how it can be fixed. A note, to continue on from what Goodaltgamer said, the downloader (which is different from Galaxy), and is discontinued (but may work). It is not required in order to download the games but can help on slower connections and large downloads (so that you can pause and continue later). For the classic Master of Orion, the installer file is only 18MB, and should be fast enough to download with just the browser on most connections.

Okay, so I've downloaded all the files just fine.

Now, I'm trying to double-click (left)/right click - run as Admin on install exe files and nothing happens.

I've disabled everything the site help advises to diable. i've also searched thru moo forums - and haven't founf anything of help.

PS I've downloaded GOG donloader but it seems to do nothing with installation
This is only a shot into the dark - have you dl'ed the Windows versions since there are also MAC and Linux ones?

Mac and Linux do not use *.exe's. But the last post was perhaps not posted what you typed this, it seems to have been fairly close in time so it's understandable that you may have missed that word.

Thank you for the information, now we know some of what's happening. That's strange, the installer should work just fine on Windows XP.

Could you run the Task Manager (Microsoft tells me it's Диспетчер задач in Russian) and see what applications are running? (shortcut: ctrl-shift-esc).
Is the installer exe listed in either the "Applications" or "Processes" tab? (the two leftmost ones, I don't know their Russian names)

You do have a setup_masterblablabla.exe file, right? At least it sounds like ;)

The size is also not 1 kbyte? (right click, properties)

The file I downloaded a while ago is a combined one, so can't tell you ;)

But for MoO2 it is over 100Mbyte

The only thing I can think off (which sounds impossible) that your antivirus is for any reason putting the files into quarantine. Otherwise you shall see an error message.

But to be on the save side ;)

You installed the gogdownloader.

Go to the links I gave you and left click on the
Windows installer, English

Next thing that shall happen is that your browser asks you with an extra window

Launch application blablabla

Select Gog.com downloader and click on OK

This will open the GOGdownloader (might take a few seconds) you might have to log into it, check bottom right in the gogdownloader, it shall say in your case Chernozub (logout), meaning you are logged in.

In the main window you shall see
Master of Orion 2 with a progress bar below, indicating how much you downloaded and bottom left your current transfer speed.

Once it finished downloading (check in settings, the button is top right, for the download path) go to this patch and check if the file setpblablabla.exe is there?

Does this happen?

EDIT file size shall be 159,35 MByte

Maighstir: snip
Win XP ;) He said in his first post, had to read it myself again ;)

EDIT:

The name of the installer shall be:

setup_master_of_orion2_2.1.0.18.exe

Size: 167.087.904 bytes

Is this correct?

To add to this, MoO 1 is:

setup_master_of_orion_2.1.0.17.exe

Size: 21,925,136 bytes

No he doesn't. I don't get it why people keep telling new users to use that old, complicated and non-supported, piece of shit to download their GOG games. Let it die already.

GOG should provide checksum for every file so we can suggest new users to check it. :-P

As he did not install Galaxy on his own and he seem to have no intend to do so, why shall I press him to install Galaxy? Shall we not respect his decision NOT to install Galaxy?

Don't forget, a lot of people are coming here as they do not want to have a client in place.

lgogdownloader? gogrepo? Browser download? DownThemAll? wget?
Galaxy and Downloader are not the only ways to download the installers, and the downloader may be the worst choice of them all.

Yes, there is more than one, agreed. But as he seems to have not so much knowledge of computers I did not want to suggest anything even more complicated, what might throw him off afterwards.

For example DowmThemAll can change your browsing experience quite a bit and might complicate his life afterwards. Gogdownloader on the other hand we do know and it does not impact anything else in my experience.

Considering the GOG downloader is no longer supported by GOG and will eventually simply stop working (not that it worked all that well to begin with), it is not a viable suggestion, no matter what level of computer literacy a person might have. If people don't want Galaxy, we should be directing them to one of the many other alternatives. If you are concerned about overwhelming someone with all the features of something like DownThemAll, point them at one of the community solutions, which are far simpler and GOG-specific.
