Hi I will be visiting Japan very shortly, and was curious as there are no rules about me visiting GOG not from my main IP but from a 4G Network? As I will be visiting some time there, and would love to catch up in the forums and check out whenever a good bargain is on, also, will I get redirected to the Japanese GOG part of the website? Just some questions.
I go between China and the UK and have been doing this for years. I have had absolutely no problems with posting, buying games, downloading games (except that one time a few years back because of China's internet blocking policy) at all.

I'm pretty sure you won't ahve any problems either

Edit: There is a chance if you try and buy a game, the GOG main page will automatically revert to that language and currency, but it's easy to change language/currency back to your preference

Bottom right of the page is language and currency options. :)

Thanks peeps, wasn't entirely sure, as I do know that Japan sometimes have strictness on where you browse from, I have heard some people mention, when traveling, don't use Google, Use DuckDuckGo or something like that, is it worth using to avoid being blocked?

Hello Raider2Knight.

No, I'm pretty sure there is no rule against accessing your account from a different IP. Also, there is not a Japanese version of GOG as of yet (so no language support, Japanese forum and yen support). Just keep in mind that some games will not be available for purchase while you are there (Dragon's Dogma, Dying Light, Neptunia series).

Raider2Knight: *snip*
I think you're thinking of China, not Japan.

Unless of course you;re headed to Japan for the porn.

I;d have to go looking for the thread but some of us browse the internet with VPNs from around the globe and I don;t recall anyone having an issue.

lol nope, but thanks though, yeah, I must of confused the strictness with China, China has some really weird rules, just there for the beauty of Japan and Site Seeing and hoping to get infused with their culture. Thanks So much everyone.

Even then, there's a way around it. Today, I have no problems accessing GOG from a VPN in China but I always turn it off when making a purchase. There are times accessing GOG in China can be finicky but that's because of internet speed throttling that happens during certain times of the day. The worst I ever had it was in November 2014 when I couldn't access GOG at all and Firek from support put a game I purchased on GOGs FTP server as a temporary workaround.

Internet in China really sucks
So I;m now sitting here waiting for the "No portion of the Internet is safe! It's always watched by the government! Big brother is real! Bill, Hillary and the rest of them are space lizards and Bernie is really a woodchuck!" folks to come out of hiding. I;m sure there's at least a few of them around here....

There are aliens from planet Zeta who only speak to me!!! NASA is just doctoring photos of other planets. and and and....NASA and government cover ups and .........stuff.

Oh, and the Earth is flat too.....

.....and I fart rainbows that smells like skittles........

Happy now? :)

Been using 4g for a few weeks from Thailand and had no issues, strangely the prices are still in USD while on that other place, lets call it hell, they are in Baht and regionally priced (still Not gonna buy there) i thought regional pricing was a Thing here too? Im Happy Not to exploit it, Just wondering.

While it's true that the site doesn't support viewing/using it in the Japanese language, there is apparently at least one member of GOG's Customer Support staff whose job description includes handling inquiries for Japanese-speaking customers.

Something no one else mentioned is that you probably won't be able to pay in Australian dollars while you're there (assuming you use that option at home); and since the yen isn't supported yet, USD will probably be your only option.

Online stores have to actually set up deals with payment processors and take care of other things behind the scenes before they can offer support for payment in different currencies. Steam have been at this longer than GOG, and make way more money besides, so they can afford to faster expand their website's currency support. GOG just started adding more languages and currencies about three and a half years ago, and are so far up to 13 currencies, counting the dollar.
