ZFR: ...
Anyway my question is: any good games out there similar to it? A bit more complex and much more challenging would be nice.
I can recommend Fantasy General. I found it much easier to get into than Pacific General / Panzer General etc but it's obviously more complex and challenging than the Braveland series.

If you haven't bought it yet, you should hurry and buy Reverse Crawl as long as it's still the PWYW deal at Indiegamestand.com (it still is for the next five hours).

I've bought it today and played the first few missions and I think it is exactly what you are looking for. More challenging and complex than the Braveland games (and also with a higher replaybility, because you can take different missions and upgrades), but still easy to learn and not over-complicated. So far I like it a lot.

Thanks. Bought.

Breja: From the same developer there's also Northmark http://www.rakeingrass.com/game_northmark.php

ZFR: Thanks for the suggestions. Northmark looks like something I'd enjoy, even if it doesn't strictly meets the criteria, so given the sale price I'd definitiely be buying it.
Oh, crap. I put off buying it then it completely slipped my mind and now the sale is over.

Anyone knows if this appears in bundles or simlar? If not I'll wait for the next steam sale (or maybe it'll appear on GOG...).

Really mad at myself. 10 EURO is a bit too steep to me for such a game. But I suppose I will just buy it for full price if no sale appears in a few months.

I'd say wait for a sale. The game is really good and fun, but it's also rather short.

Strange thing- I bought in on IndieGameStand. I got it DRM-free and got the Styrateg game I mentioned as a bonus, which was a pretty sweet deal. It's all still in my library. But it seems to have since vanished from the store, or at least I can't find it.

Yeah, it seems that some of the special deal games on Indie Game Stand are only there for the deal alone but never make it into the shop. I also bought such a game there once, but can’t remember which on right now. I don’t understand the reasons behind this. All I know is, that occasionally a game disappeared from the shop when the developer joined in with a publisher, sometimes reappearing a few weeks later or not. So it might all be a license thing.
Northmark is in this bundlestars bundle:

Thought I'd picked up Reverse Crawl in the same bundle, but apparently not - got that in a "3 for $3 pick 'em" bundle early last month. I also quite enjoyed Reverse Crawl.

Should've quote you to make sure you'd see the response - whoops. Fixed by edit, now off for the night. Good luck! :)

(FWIW, I think it's a pretty great bundle for the price. Fortix isn't at all what you're talking about, but I still thought it was a fun 4-5 hour diversion)

Thank you, bler.
I'm generally against buying indie bundles for the one single game that you want (I know you can ignore everything else, but I would still feel it added too much backlog), but for the first time I've finally decided to get one. Northmark looks really good, and the other games are something I might enjoy too (with the exception of Shadowgate perhaps). Hopefully it will be worth it.
I also got Fortix 1, since it's only 99 cents.
I already had shadowgate and Inquisitor on GOG (so donated those keys to zeo's GA), and still felt like the bundle was well worth it as my monthly purchase.
Sorry to bump this, but if anyone is interested, Star Vikings is a great game from this genre. Just finished the game, but still have few areas to do, then start NG+. Unlike Braveland, this one can be pretty challenging.

I played the demo, but while the game seemed ok I wouldn't put it in the same genre. It's more like a puzzle game than strategy.
