So, I'm currently watching a stream of Bloodborne and it really looks like a Dark Souls DLC: same typeface, menus, color palette, Sound effects, animations. Apart from the idea of random-generated dungeons, I have trouble seeing the differences. Does someone know a page (up-to-date, not based on previews) which makes comparisons? Spreadsheet-style preferably....
Funny, about 2 am I was watching tv and a commercial for Bloodborne came on and right up to the end when they gave the name I kept wondering if it was a possible sequel to 5 or 6 different games. XD

I'm gathering from the OP and my observations that the designers on this one aren't going to get any points for originality.
Augh. Randomly generated.
Did they finally do away with the stupid health system and all the other supposedly challenging gimmicks?

Uhm, yeah, it's from the same developer, it's the same as you saying that Dark Souls looks like Demon Souls dlc. I don't know of any comparisons link but the gameplay is more fast paced and less defensive (you no longer have a shield).

It's optional i think but there is some important stuff in those...
It's more like Demon's Souls 2. Or Demon's Souls 4 depending how you want to look at it. I guess if you put first person mods in those games it would be King's Field 8. But no, no possible contorting of logic could make it Dark Souls 3.
It's from the same developers (From Software), and it's part of the Soul series judging from the footage. So it's to be expected it would share a bunch of similarities to previous games in the series.

Its not officially part of the Souls series but shares some of the same DNA. The world and setting is new unlike anything in the Souls games. The combat is faster and rewards risk takers that are more aggressive in their approach.

At least it's from the Souls guy himself.
Huh interesting. Hadn't heard of it but like a few in this thread saw the commercial. Seeing as I hadn't heard much about it, I thought it was a cheap, well marketed Demon / Dark Souls knock off.

Didn't realize it was from From, which gives it a bit more credence in my eyes. Still don't have a next (now current LOL - funny how that works ;) ) generation console though. Thanks to GoG my gaming time has been firmly (re)grounded in the PC! Oddly enough, haven't even missed the consoles, which is surprising given how much time I put into them over the last few years.

It's apparently by the same lead designer/ project leader who came up with the original Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. As far as I know it's also PS4 exclusive, so that does nothing for me. Maybe we'll get it here on GOG, 10 years from now. :P

Don't know if it's any good, but I heard the gameplay is quite different from the previous Souls games.

It looked a bit faster paced and less punishing, but with the same oozing atmosphere of dread, massive bosses and that wonderful washed out look. Not a bad thing in my opinion (I LOVE the Souls games but don't mind having an option for people who want to sort of "dip a big toe" into that sort of game).

If anyone does take the dive, I'd love to see impressions.

I hope they didn't completely screw up the combat mechanics. There's so many God of War/ DMC clones already, and I'm not really a fan of the button-mashing combat. The Souls games were a nice change, with their emphasis on tactics and timing, rather than just quick reactions or long combo chains. But since at least some of the original Souls staff also seems to have worked on Bloodborne, I'm fairly sure that it didn't turn out all bad. And maybe it's good for them to try out a few new things.

Well, as for impressions, I just saw this on the forum: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/revolverc_streams_bloodborne
FromSoft uses the same aesthetics in these games, which is nothing new, many devs do the same.

I've been following cohhcarnage's walkthrough on twitch.
The gameplay is faster and rewards aggression, however you still die very easily if you just button-mash.
He was only two-three hours or so into the game and had died over 20 times.
So I don't think the game is much easier than Dark Souls.

For one thing the devs would be stupid to make it easier since it's the difficulty that's the main draw of these games, the main marketing tool they have.

I think its good that FromSoft tries new things, to innovate, isn't that what drives gaming progress ?
Its hypocritical that some people encourage other genres to innovate yet when it comes to certain Fantasy games they don't want any innovation at all.

Very funny that you mentioned DMC as I almost mentioned it in the first response I made to you - from the short segments I've seen that did jump into my head as well.

Neat didn't see that thanks!
