Hey guys,
We just rolled out two new features on the website, including changes we've all been anxiously waiting for. Here's what's new:

1) Fraud Protection
We've recently faced a significant number of fraudulent transaction attempts with stolen cards. It's a serious issue for us, so to combat this we just introduced a new form of fraud protection during gift checkout.

Starting today, purchasing gifts via Credit/Debit Card will be limited on new accounts. The security measures will be automatically lifted two months after you complete any purchase on your account, regardless of the payment method used.

Gifting via all other payment methods will not be affected. So you can make any transaction with any payment method, and two months later you'll be able to start gifting with your Credit/Debit card. If this applies to your account, you should see the following message during checkout:

"Purchasing gifts via Credit/Debit Card is not yet enabled on this account - these security measures are automatically lifted two months after completing any purchase, regardless of the payment method. Please keep in mind that you can always purchase gifts through another payment method.

If you have any questions or concerns, our customer support team is ready to help."

2) Blocking Users / Clearing Conversations
We've now implemented the option to clear conversations and block users in chat. But we hope you won't have to use it. ;)

Clear Conversation: This will clear out the entire message history with that user, but it will not affect the other person's chat history.
Block User: This will prevent both users from contacting each other. You will see a message stating that you've blocked the user, while to them it will only appear that you've adjusted your general privacy settings.

Blocking users and clearing conversations:
To block someone who contacted you before, you can you do this directly through the tooltip on your Account > Friends page. You can also search for any username, open a conversation window, and locate the tooltip in the top-right hand corner.
You can use the same conversation tooltip to clear your chat history with that person.

Unblocking users:
You can manage your list of blocked users through a dedicated page located under Account > Settings > Blocked Conversations.

You can also unblock a user directly through Account > Friends, Account > Chat, GOG Galaxy conversation window, or by hovering over their avatar on the forums.

So does this mean the gifting restrictions are lifted ?

So it took you guys another two weeks or so to bring back Clear and Block features from the old PM system. Was it asking too much of you to say something to us regarding the delay when we were inquiring about it in the thread where the initial announcement was made?

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/update_blocking_users_and_deleting_messages_on_chat/post120

Better late then never so good to see these features implemented but once again your absolute failure to communicate on your own accord left most people less then optimistic of seeing the return of these much needed features. I hope you guys finally start learning from your errors and be more transparent regarding these issues in the future to alleviate our concerns.

I also sincerely hope the anti-fraud measures that you have introduced prove to be effective because a few bad apples should not be able to dictate the purchasing ability of all the legitimate customers here. Also hoping that the temporary gifting restrictions having been lifted now continue to stay that way due to this measure as it was a major concern for a lot of your customers here.

EDIT: This thread should be highlighted with a blue pointer as this is very pertinent information that every customer should be able to find. I don't know why you guys keep posting important information like this in common threads.

EDIT 2: Thank you Konrad for making this thread prominent and visible with a Blue pointer to make it more official. :)

THIS.
Thanks Konrad.
I wouldn't mind a bit if there was one more drop-down join date field. Not to mention forum post history..
Could you also mark your post with blue spot? It's so easy to miss important things..

Now we're talking ; ) Thanks again!

thank you.
But I have a little problem.
I can't see who sent me friend request.
How to fix that?

I think you should follow Judas' example the next time you have a big update to put out.
Check around the office, figure out which sub-forum gets the least traffic overall, then put it there. After that, just post cryptic messages hinting at the location and contents of the thread.

If you're stuck conversing with people after drawing the short straw, you might as well have some fun with it. =)

First: I appreciate that you implemented these features. So thanks!

But can you please implement a feature to get rid of persons on your contact list? I really hoped clearing a conversation would also mean that the person is no longer in this long and unclear chat contact list... But since it does not do that, please implement something to manage that.

Also: Does this fraud thing mean you are lifting the worldwide gifting restriction?

Well, it's a start to fixing the issues here. Good job on finally fixing something that wasn't broken until you decided to force Galaxy compatibility on the entire site before it was in an even basic working state.

What do you mean - where are you trying to get that info? You should see friends requests on Account > Friends page. Is it not there? Also, when searching for a friends you should see that user invitation is pending and you can accept it (click on the + on Friends page).

I agree, just cleared a very old one time conversation and then blocked the user as well but I can still see them on the list. If not clear conversation alone then surely block should remove the person from the conversation list. Add a separate Remove From List button if you must.

While we're on the subject, the Blocking feature in the old PM system also allowed to report the user. So please implement the option to report any abuse or spam in the chat like the old PM system whenever there is a need to block a certain individual. We shouldn't have to contact support every time with a ticket for reporting unpleasant interactions on Chat and preemptively be able to stop the account holder from harassing or spamming others as well.
As for join date information and forum post history, we have a frustrated impersonator here. His main account gets few more rep points each day without any new posts, would be easy to spot him for everyone without time wasting.

I am also fully up for what moonshineshadow already said about removing users from chat, it's getting messy..
and report function as well, thanks for pointing this out stg83!

The Witcher 3 is still gift restricted. I've tried a few other titles that were previously gift restricted and they aren't any more. So it seems we are back to where we were a few weeks ago.

It was possible to gift the Witcher 3 when I first checked after the announcement but now its restricted again. Could be some kind of error as I don't see any reason to impose a restriction on TW3 alone with the fraud protection in place.

Maybe. I'm not so sure the problem with The Witcher 3 was strictly related to this though. Remember the whole authorized resellers thing just before it released? It might still be related to that.
