An open letter to GOG:

Dear GOG,

With one hour and five minutes to go until arguably your finest hour, you seem destined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Witcher 3 should be your crowning glory, but instead, I feel genuinely aggrieved.

Why?

Because it comes at a massive price. GOG - the chippy young upstart who had a very consumer-friendly outlook is determined to destroy the banks of goodwill that it has taken years to garner.

In theory, Galaxy sounds great.....but......it's not, is it? It is flaky, even' for a beta and you seem intent on jamming all the social media crapola down our throats. Achievements? Friends? Really? I submit this to you: despite several threads jam-packed full of gamers asking that you put the bookshelf back the way it was, you refuse to do so. Why not? You say you can't do it, but that's not true. We all used to have that functionality.

I'm not convinced by the fact that Galaxy failed to note any of my installed games, despite prompting. Should I uninstall and reinstall them? Not fun, GOG, not fun.

Don't even get me started on CDPR - there have been some pretty awful untruths flying about regarding consolisation, exclusive deals for XBONE and the infamous 2013 demos. "We are PC gaming's friends." I can't stand the whole "season pass" idea and it smells rank that it has now been adopted by CDPR.

Are you still our friends? I see you trying to turn into Steam, with its abundance of extraneous dogcrap. I came to you because you WEREN'T Steam. If you insist on going there, fair warning - I will not accompany you.

Good luck.

Maybe it'll getting better. We'll probably getting technical issues with Witcher III threads instead....

Do you happen to know how do I download GoG Galaxy? And since we're talking about it, do friends get added or is it automatic?
Any help you can provide regarding GoG Galaxy will be super!

Teasing of course. Have a good day :).
they can't just bring box art without redesigning the new site design they've created. any redesign is more work. that said, I do agree that the old shelf had a certain charm that this new one lacks which they should attempt to restore. taking away the reason some people had to buy games, in this case being simply to buy games, is probably not a good idea on a site that sells games.

at the very least, they should make the icons taller. of course, that requires resizing of all 1000+ icons. at minimum, they should add drop shadows or embossing something. anything. it needs something else. perhaps they can fix it when the skins debut.

regarding Galaxy's functionality woes, it's not easy building a client. now you see what Steam has actually achieved and how many mines Valve worked in sidestepping in their heavier-handed but still not unacceptable version.

regarding the site's changes to accommodate Galaxy, a lot of it is just superficial. like the pms. there is not a ton of difference. some, but not a ton. not saying that they don't still need work.

ignore the social features you don't like.

use the "install from library" (should be "import from library") feature to import games that are not galaxy aware that you have installed. access it by clicking the + option or through that individual game's library page entry's more button.

regarding the 2013 video. yeah. it's shady. there's no excuses and what that PR guy said is total crap. just complete crap. we're overhyping this game, but don't blame us for that because it's not out yet! no. but even so, with everyone else riding the bullshot gravy train, what choice did CDPRED have? if they demoed it looking how it did now against stuff from the division and 1866 and so on, many people complaining about downgrading might have complained how lastgen things look and how disappointed they are. and then, maybe someone at one of the larger publishers decides to increase the budget of something to make the graphics look nicer because there is a weakness on CDPRED's side. so against that, what could they do? it's cutthroat. but you can't just let the bs fly. but it's not CDPRED alone doing it. it's more of an industrywide problem. a movie can misrepresent itself with a trailer, but not to the same degree as a game.
