so I've already posted this to Steam as well as the Bioshock forums and got nothing back in quite a few days so I'm turning here.

I bought Bioshock on Steam and when I play I'm getting a really weird and bloody annoying bug. It's kinda hard to explain... so I'm going to give examples from the first 5 minutes of the game, since that's pretty much all I can stand.

When swimming up to the tower/lighthouse thing and looking up there appears to be 2 towers, like your seeing double. But only in the top left quadrant of the screen, no were else. This also appears anytime there's smoke/mist such as when the bayasphere opens when you enter the lighthouse.

It's really annoying and I've tried everything to fix it, turning the settings all the way down, playing fullscreen/windowed etc. Nothing works.

I'm running on a laptop with an NVIDA Geforce 840m Graphics card.

thanks for anyhelp.
Have you tried reinstalling the game?

I don't have any ideas for the actual problem, but if no one else is reporting it, reinstalling seems like a good step.

why are we STEAM's helpdesk now??? go ask someone with more HATRED?
I didn't try reinstalling the game but It just stopped doing it... and please, steam's helpdesk? I might as well ask a brickwall with a sticky note on it saying "Go ask someone who cares."

That and I tend to find that people on GOG are way smarter when it comes to fixing games than Steam...

Because it's kinda nice to help out other gamers, if you can, regardless of where they bought their games?

I don't know the solution, but perhaps you could try some things from the tweak guide?
Like changing the DirectX version or disabling some effect, like High Detail Post Processing?

Probably because a lot of the people that have been on GOG for very long have been gaming on PCs since the days when you HAD TO actually know (or learn) something about your OS(es), other software, hardware, and how they interacted, just to be able to get the bloody things to run (or run properly). Steam (and Galaxy, and probably most other game clients), on the other hand, has been specifically engineered to take charge of downloading and installation, and as a result, probably a frightening number of users don't know what an .EXE was, or how to edit an .INI (or why you might want to) -- let alone some of the complicated stuff like memory allocation. I am not -- and was never -- a "power user" (never bothered with the aforementioned memory juggling, for example), but even I think modern PC gaming is a piece of cake compared to having to mess with AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS and such.

Stop being a cunt and fuck off.

On topic: I had a problem like this when the game came out, it was fixed for me atleast with a new driver. But I haven't seen this problem in years obviously.
I'd try different graphics drivers if I were you.

OK, I will not say anything about steam ;)

OK, you use a card which can support up to Directx11, but which OS are you running?

XP?

Anything higher, you might want want to try to install directx9.0.c

The problem is, that the unreal engine being used in Bioshock is a heavily modified 2.5 version, hence 9.0c.

Hope it helps.
update or downgrade the graphic driver, also try to run the game without logging into steam, bioshock is drm free
