So with a few extrapolation, the title sold maybe roughly less than 2.000 units (with keeping in mind that we don't the ratio between GOG & Humble Store sales)

Please keep in mind, that's just one game among others and ratios can vary from titles to titles (sales numbers from Shovel Knight and Ethan Carter gave an higher ratio for GOG).

If those numbers translate into the market as a whole, i'll have to settle with being part of that top 5%, the elite among the elite.

A quick look at the "new" panel on the homepage shows it was stuck between Bethesda relases from one side and Fran Bow/Satellite Reign on the other side. I understand your point of view but it reminds me of indies afraid to release when GTA5 was out on PC => if the game genres are totally far away from each other, they wouldn't cannibalize their sales in a significant manner (not going from "potential success" to failure"). And in this case, a "management" game is really far away from RPG, FPS and P'n'C....

Anyway, now that you brought that up, I would be curious to see how the game was promoted on GOG at that time: was in the first upper slot of the homepage or was it just a small "news" buried under the Bethesda banner?

Early access combined with previous marketing and an actually good game. Compare it with a release on Steam. The visibility of an Indie title is / can be a lot smaller. A dev might even see his just released title drop off the frontpage within hours - so, no.

It's unclear to me that it was 5% of total sales. He says "5% of total sales over the launch period". What the "launch period" is is ambiguous. Hard to tell whether or not it includes the massive sales figures from the beta period (prior to Steam/GOG/Humble launch).

One thing a little more disheartening (to me) is that Technobabylon is just a few games away, while being a damn good game from an old school style that do traditionnaly fairly well here...

From the marketing, I noticed nothing. Seems like he concentrated on multipliers. It would be really interesting to know how h bills his development and marketing time.

I haven't bought it yet, but will later (on GOG). The backlog is big and even 'must plays' like Pacific General are sitting idle on the computer. That game got released more than three months earlier if I remember correct, and it is next to Big Pharma in the bestsellers list...

It's interesting as Technobabylon is somehow in the cyberpunk graphic style which is somehow appealing to pc gamers. Dave Gilbert wrote a little about this in terms of marketing:

The game was published by Positech so it already had the userbase leverage as the game was likely to appeal to "Democracy" buyers for example (I "discovered" the game because the owner of Positech tweeted a lot about it for months)

Can you tell me where that point is on his ROI graph? Does it coincide with the Steam Launch?
