Today we have a HUGE surprise for all classic game fans! 4 outstanding titles return to GOG.COM, accompanied by a special message from their publisher:

romgb: I've bought Syndicate Wars along with 2 games at Jun 14, so I'm not eligible for a refund. But, nonetheless, I have the option to ask for a refund (only to syndicate wars). I think GOG did this for everyone that rushed to buy it.

I'm not doing because it was too cheap, so I don't think it's worth it.
Same here. Syndicate Plus and Wars are the only 2 games that show the option to ask for a refund in my orders history. I'm not going to bother for 2.58 euro, and also let GOG's share of approximately 75 cents :-D serve as token of appreciation for their gesture.

Don't refund people, EA will conclude there is no more love for these titles after all and take them away again.

Nope, got the UU games for $1.49. You'd have to be astoundingly petty to be pissed over spare change like that.

Besides, any cent paid to corporations is often a cent too much.
My first thought was Nintendo's ways of creating digital scarcity. And fans are even happy at the privilege of paying to have crumbles thrown on the ground.
Super cheap these old games for 1.50? I got them for 0.79 and they are from the early 90s. And the money doesn't go to devs but just to shareholders and CEOs who don't even care if they are selling videogames or ice creams.

Mr.Mumbles: Ditto. The only thing that comes to my mind is that their original contract for these expired and they had to renegotiate terms? Pretty much nothing else would make any sense in this scenario. *shrug*
My suspicion is that the game where thought of as to old to make significant money with it and nobody cares.
But then when the last hours sale whas they sold so well for what EA considered freeware so they decided out of good will to bring them back for free for a fixed time to fix people on them only after the time runs out to take them off again and this time bring another remake or remaster to Steam and/or Origin so if people missed out both chances to grab them here, they will get such a desire to get those games so they will accept grudgingly DRM.

Except that they are giving them away for free until the end of September. So, increased sales are not really a factor. Most people that ever wanted the games will have got them by now. :)

In any case they were never expensive to begin with.

Very cool EA!

Maybe the delisting came from a board meeting that reevaluated the IPs... and the ultimate decision was to use them, and maybe even bring new entries?

Either way, great that they are back.

NuffCatnip: By the way, in two months American McGee's Alice celebrates its 20th birthday, I know iknow, EA doesn't want to acknowledge this games existence, but maybe, just maybe try to give this game a place on gog. Many would appreceate it. ;)
For me American McGee's Alice has been one the most awaited games on GOG for years.)

This seems like a good sign from EA, that they are re-releasing these games with a gesture of goodwill and also their recent deal with Zoom Platform. Imo, they deserve some plaudits for taking on board feedback from the DRM-free gaming community and it's great that they are willing to keep making these classic games available DRM-free. After all, they could have simply pulled these games and buried them forever.

Although, their mixed messages over the past several weeks have been quite confusing, with these games getting pulled and then that thing yesterday about "GOG not being a trusted partner".

For those that are criticizing EA: they get criticized for pulling the games and then they get criticized for bringing them back ... seems like it's hard for them to win. I mean, I'm hardly EA's biggest fan and it's unusual for me to be defending them, but I believe in giving credit where it's due. This is a step in the right direction and hopefully we will see more of their games being released DRM-free in the future.
