I don't know why but I see a lot of articles how GoG is DRM free + Cheaper. I am comparing prices for a year and it never happened that a game was cheaper than on Steam. GoG doesn't use my local currency and puts prices in USD and it just is always 10-20% higher than steam. Also can anyone explain the concept of DRM free? What is the benefit?

Examples (FX is 1.4 USD for each SGD):

RIMWORLD 34 USD GOG / 29 SGD STEAM
OBSERVATION (now 50% off) 12.50 USD GOG / 11 SGD STEAM
STELLARIS 39.99 USD GOG / 39.99 SGD STEAM

The difference is not high, but still...

Change to usd or sgd on both and see if that helps. I've euro on both and there the prises are the same.

About DRM vs DRM-free: That's been done to the death for years. Use the force of your fingers and brain and you'll find the answer...

GOG not only doesn't support Singapore currency, but also doesn't have regional prices for Singapore, while Steam does.

Thus, while on Steam you get regional price tags, on GOG you get "flat" U.S. Dollar price tags.

Unfortunately, you can't do anything with this situation until GOG decides to implement regional prices for Singapore.

As for DRM-Free, it means that games sold on GOG don't have any third-party copy protection stuff (such as Denuvo). Just install the game and play it, even if you are offline. (:

Only USD is available in my locale, unfortunately. Thanks for the DRM, it wasn't either pro or versus, just generally seen the discussions but didn't delve into what it is in the first place.

Understood! Thanks for such a clear explanation, super helpful. And noted about the DRM, thank you again!

To be honest, even if your issue is different and related to GOG possibly not supporting regional prices for Singapore, I don't really think those claims about GOG being cheaper than Steam are true in the West either, at least not in the EU zones.

DRM-free also has the advantage that you could theoretically backup your installer and if the store ever goes down or the game's publisher makes changes to the game, like removing licensed in-game music or something, you'd still have access to your old backed-up installer and neither the store being out of business nor the publisher's need to change something would affect your installer and prevent you from continuing to play the game you bought, in the state that you bought it (well, as long as its still supported by your operating system).

(You'd need to download and backup the offline installers for that though. GOG also offers a client like Steam, Galaxy, and promotes it with big blue download buttons in your library. You can use it if you like, but just know that you don't have to. If you just want the offline installers, ignore the shiny blue buttons and look below them for "offline installers" (see attached screenshot).

Turns out there is SG regional pricing according to MaGog.

This is the list of games with regional pricing in Singapore.

I provided an identical list for South Africa a month or so ago. Apparently only one developer cares to have regional pricing for every market.

Had an account since 2016 and does not know what DRM free is? Why on earth have brought games here if you don’t u sees tans the point of it?

As for pricing, steam has a bigger library, and hundreds of key sellers all trying to outdo each other. So yes, you can always find cheaper prices for steam. If you have no idea what drm free is, then just use steam, better selection and better prices.

The less people buying the DRM'ed version of games, the better, no? Even if they don't understand what DRM-free means... (the OP never said he/she doesn't see the point of it). ;-)

Quite the opposite. They want multiplayer, achievements, cloud saves, etc. It’s exactly why GOG created galaxy to attract those people. They are not going to complain if denuvo or something else ends up here, it’s just part one of those things, and what is drm free anyways?
Sure, not buying drmd products is great, but only if you understand why drm free is good.

Woah this is hilarious, thanks for the find :) Honestly, thanks for spending time to investigate!

Haven't been gaming for a long time... I am sure there are topics that you don't have a clue about and that doesn't make me write a bitter comment :) Also I registered at GoG as I was a big fan of CD Project Red and bought games when some discounts were happening which were not available at Steam at the time. Thanks for the comment though.

Depends on the purpose I guess, now that it was explained - for me personally it doesn't make a huge difference, however I like the devs and supporting them as well.

Just like the rep system and the ability to post without using money here on GOG, that's a system waiting to be abused and it was uneven. In fact it was being abused: regional pricing exploit.

Regional currency is probably not a bad thing, other than complicate things more (like in this case, and there are different exchange rates), but regional pricing was removed for a reason. After the whole debacle GOG among others opted to change current practices and implemented better code/key management. Steam continued regional prising but put on a restriction so you couldn't gift across these regions (not sure what their rules are today exactly), and GOG just removed it.

Of course, the EU could ban 3. party resellers but that will never happen... :D

DRM free doesn't matter to you?

I have a friend that buys all of his games on Steam. He then downloads an "offline backup installer" from "somewhere".
I guess the end result is the same as buying those same games on GOG. (a few advantages and disadvantages - I'm not going into that)

I might be a cynic, but that doesn't mean that I'll support the things I'm against (DRM).

There are topics that I know nothing about, but those topics are not worth anything :o)
I don't think gog has ever been known for being cheaper than Steam. Where was this heard? :D
