Just two page of updates after my last check in december. Should be easy to download everything this weekend to be up to date. Still not sure if I also should download all the alpha-stuff I skipped to backup.

Sad story if Desura would be closed, from all the indie shops it was one of the most promising ones.
worrying news. Wonder if someone will pick up Desura.

martigasin: you know what will be super and would put aside all fear of loosing the games that people own on these digital stores when they go down .

Once one of this companies files for bankruptcy. they have to place all the licenses of the games in GOG or STEAM or any digital store.

Maybe the different stores can do bittings on the licenses and by doing so the dying store can make a little money on the way out

Leroux: I doubt Desura has exclusive licenses Steam and GOG would be interested in. If the games are on Desura but not Steam and GOG, chances are Steam and GOG weren't interested in selling them.
maybe not from a business stand point but for the consumers it would mean a lot that the companies cares that you have x game and you want to play it forever and ever regardless of where.

i thought that it was great when GOG announce that was available the use of old cd rom keys to play the stalker games. i believe things like make loyal customers.

Fever_Discordia: I was surprised that OIO never turned up anywhere else - I only played the first level or so but it was certainly a nice looking game...

*edit* Heh - the amount of GOG regs in the comments!
There are many good games that aren't on GOG even though they are available DRM-free elsewhere. It's not that a game is bad when it's not on GOG, it's just that GOG seems to be very selective in what they sell. They'd have no use for 'acquiring' the Desura catalogue, if something like that would be possible and make sense at all.

Well, you can. You just have to take good care of your DRM-free installers, same as with the old disks, CD-ROMs and DVDs you'd buy. That you can always download the games again from the seller's website is just an extra feature that you should not rely on too much. Even GOG could be gone one day.

Catshade: Oh well, it's time to backup all those keys and installers.. *sigh*
Already done, two weeks ago.
Better safe, than sorry.
It looks like I have to backup driftmoon, sanctuary and Zafehouse diaries. And maybe a couple more. Crap, this is why I like to stick to tried and true services... And preferably DRM free...
I have 64 Indie Royale bundles worth of games. I stopped buying them a while ago, but damn.

I'm sorry for all desura's customers and I hope none of them will have problems because of this bankrupcy and they'll get to somehow keep their games in the end.
As for myself I never had an account there.

I'm in a similar situation, only I carried on buying for longer... Oh well, maybe this shock to the system will help me curb my game buying addition.
Back up time as well...

Aren't they in the GOG catalog ?
The only game I would miss would be Always Remember Me (made Desura account for that one) as I never got a steam key, apart from that, I don't think I will miss anything.

But still, sux. At least we can make backups, not like ppl who lost their games on OnLive.

They are, but I only have them in my Desura account. And I don't feel like re-buying, though I might just do that.
Snap, I might have more from Groupees. Bailout time. T_T
All the stuff that matters from there should be up to date in my backup, I checked a few weeks ago.
